HDMI strangeness - different resolutions of browsers etc

I have a Blaunpunkt TV Full HD 1920x1080, it worked as a second screen for my old laptop via HDMI at full HD resolution.

Old laptop broke, temporary new laptop is a fairly poor HP Pavillion.

When I plug my 22" ASUS monitor in to HDMI it works fine at full HD.

When I plug my Blaunpunkt TV in, Windows is clearly running at Full HD (taskbar/start menu etc) but programs and browsers etc do not, they are still acting like they are on the laptop's own screen at the native resolution.

I plugged the TV into a cheap Toshiba satellite and it does the same thing, except even more noticeably, Internet Explorer runs at Full HD while Opera does not and Windows is clearly running at Full HD too.

This is bizarre and I am not sure how to fix and cannot seem to phrase my search for the answer correctly in Google so here I am...

Any help received with thanks. IE_HD-ASUS.PNGWIN_HD-IE_HD-CONTENT_NONHD-BLAUPUNKT.PNGWIN-HD-EXPLORER-NONHD-BLAUPUNKT.PNG

Let's start with the native resolutions. What is the native resolution of the HP laptop?

I could be wrong on this, but it is possible that the video card of the laptop isn't capable of outputting a higher resolution, so you wouldn't get the full, native resolution of either external screens, especially if you are still viewing the laptop screen at the same time. If you are using both screens at once, you may be cloning the display, which means any external outputs are going to be at the same resolution. Different laptops handle external displays differently. I deal with this often when connecting a laptop to a projector.

Try connecting the laptop to the external screens, and then closing the laptop lid, forcing it to only use the external screen.

Well this is the weird thing...

I am using extended display with 2 different resolutions 1366x768 and 1920x1080 but it works fine with the ASUS 22" @ 1920x1080 but not with the Blaupunkt 40".

This is why I am confused, it can clearly do it on one screen.

My first thought was that the GC couldn't handle the 2 different resolutions but it clearly can, just not on the Blaupunkt.

Any other ideas?

Is your browser just zoomed in? (Most browsers have a zoom in option for people who can't read smaller stuff)

Because to my eyes, the sizes are different. Not the resolution.

I would have to venture a guess that it may just be the tv, or a video driver? Did you contact the mfg? they are known to do some weird things with their products.
