When Win 8 first came out, I had driver and bug issues on my Win 7 machine. Does anyone know if this v8.1 Preview distro is any better? Thanks.

Hello Jacatone, and welcome to Eight Forums.

In case you didn't know, the Windows 8.1 RTM will be released on October 18th 2013 through the Store, and most likely as a separate ISO download as well. :)

Windows 8.1 Preview

I have it on 3 different PC's--1-Dell, 1 Gateway, and 1 Hp.I have had absolutely no trouble with any of them. I will install the new 8.1 when it is available and if it is the same as the preview I do not anticipate any problems.

I have it installed in VMware Player 5.
It seems less annoying than W8.

I have set it to:
  • Boot to Desktop
  • Open "All Apps" instead of the default Metro screen

I had issues with just about every version of 8 on my older desktop PC's. Drivers would be my guess. I'm happy to say, that so far, the 8.1 RTM (clean install) is running just fine on my main desktop. I had issues with the 8.1 preview on my laptop after doing the upgrade though the store. A RTM clean install is running fine on that too. YMMV

I've already downloaded the preview version. Just haven't installed it yet. Guess I'll have to try it to see if it's worth pursuing.

Download Windows 8.1 Preview ISO files - Microsoft Windows
If you haven't installed the pre-view version, it might be a good idea to wait until the other comes out. It's only a little over a couple of weeks. If you install the pre-view version now, you won't be able to install the final release over it. And you won't be able to uninstall it. You would have to put your system in a state where it was before you installed the pre-view of 8.1. I could be wrong on this so it would be best to wait to hear from one of the other members who is more knowledgeable than I am.

I'm running the "official" version at the moment. I like it so far, a definite improvement. Although, there's no way I would pay for this much needed update. A ton of customization options have been added.
