Anybody know what is best software to test Hard Drives in Windows 8.I have a Hitachi i want to test it,its' a secondary hard disk.Hitachi has a site uses DFT but the bootable software does not work for me and it is listed in 2009.Same for Western Digital which is my primary HD with Windows 8 on it,none are listed for Win8.I recently had issues with hitachi showing bad sectors, thru a few chkdsk,DISM and scandisk reports it looks better here a post most recent one.

I think you would be better served to take a step back and explain what drove you to suspect a hard drive issue. The HGST Test looks OK. What are the symptoms of your issue?

JDS,

In addition to what my2cents posted, your chkdsk results show "0 KB in bad sectors", so you are fine there as well.

I can only repeat "What are the symptoms of your issue?" as well. :)

Well originally this was my primary hard drive i bought a new one made this my secondary drive. If you recall i had an issue of it being BUS 0 and primary being BUS 1 on SATA,i just had to switch sata cables fix it.Then without running a chkdsk on either drives which most say when you buy new one and format another,i had program called Hard Disk Sentinel. This program told me through short tests my primary was good,100% health and performance,my secondary D: %100 performance %95 on health. When i ran surface tests on older drive one with issues i thought through this program, surface scans told me i had 8 weak sectors. So i ran chkdsk on D: it took literally 6 hrs. to complete showing lots of unindexed, unallocated and sector problems. In program after still showed same percentage for health and performance, led me believe drive was bad, system restore was not working for this drive.I did another chkdsk along with DISM.exe and scandisk. After running one or so more chkdsk, dism.exe and scandisk this was results now from chkdsk log i recently posted.Someone at Bleeping computers told me to run DFT but did not tell me to run the DOS based one so one i posted was windows one to him,he said it was the wrong one,but DOS boot one did not work on my system as much as i tried.Your right it looks to me like D: drive is fine now.Either chkdsk fixed errors, relocated bad sectors not to be used.Tell me more if i am not sure. Thanks Guys.

What you see in your report above is normal and just routine maintenance on the hard drive when you run chkdsk. What really matters is if it shows anything in "bad sectors".

Since your reports above do not, then you are fine and have nothing to worry about. :)

Thanks Brink, but on bleeping computers he felt that chkdsk does not tell you it is a hardware issue, said it was just numbers. He felt a full surface scan under DFT's DOS program which did not recognize my SATA drives no matter what selections i made in program, would determine more to him if it was a hardware issue or not.Drive isn't even a year old if that does make a difference.I feel chkdsk and possible DISM fixed alot of issues, put any bad sectors to where drive will not use them, one before this chkdsk had only 4KB bad sectors, now none in this one. Thanks again i will feel this drive is o.k. for now.

For now, I would recommend to keep anything that you do not want to lose on the hard drive backed up to another location to be safe. Afterwards, run chkdsk and DFT (DOS or Windows) on the hard drive about once a week for a while to see if they find anything. If you continue to get bad sectors, then you might consider replacing the HDD, or getting an RMA for a free replacement if it's still under warrantee.
