Happy Independence Day to those living in Texas and Texans, like me, living in other states.

Texas Independence Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. With this document signed by 59 people, settlers in Mexican Texas officially broke from Mexico creating the Republic of Texas.Texas Independence Day is an official holiday in the state of Texas.

(Yes, I know I'm a day early but I have school tomorrow.)

...

I'm an ex-pat myself, now living in Key West.

Few realize it, but Texas is unique among the 50 states. There are 3 groups of states: the original 13, those formed from acquired territory, and Texas. Unlike any other state, other than the original 13, Texas fought its own independence revolution (from Mexico) and formed its own independent nation with a standing militia and a navy. After a decade on its own, it chose to merge into the US. This decade of independence has flavored Texas and Texans ever since.

I appreciate the history, really do. The thing I don't appreciate is the attitude by some people there acting like they are doing us a favor by being part of the States. Not saying either of you feel that way.
Heck, I wish they would truly succeed if that is what the majority of Texans want.

I'm Texan and I am very much so in favor of secession. If you are in favor, please take a look at this website and perhaps join the movement. :)
