Solved Got my Nokia Lumia 920 Windows 8 phone last night...

I am loving my Cyan 920! My wife has a white one. They are sturdy built phones and do everything I need it to with great ease. I can't stress enough how awesome the camera is!!!

Now if my charging plate would get here, all would be right with the world!!

Geeve, I'm glad you got the L920, I think you'll be very happy with it. When my wireless charger arrived, it was black, but I don't really care. I keep it on the bedside table so I just set the phone down at night and pick it up in the AM, no plug to disconnect (or forget to disconnect). We never know ehen we're going to get an emergency phone call during the night (older parents, you know) and the wireless charger is great for this application. I want to get the FatBoy pillow for the center console of my car so I can just drop the phone on the "pillow" to charge it and pick it up when I leave the car, although at $80, it's a little steep and hard for me to justify at this point...

Yeah I was looking at the energizer QI double charger for the kitchen counter so both my wife and can charge at night at the same point and I can take the plate to work. I do like that you can just plop it down and not have to worry about fiddling with cables. My wife has hers by the bed because she surfs the webs late some nights and loves that she doesn't have to find the cable in the dark to charge it.

He's Canadian, so his reply is brief and to the point! After working in IT support for 20 years, I know only too well that positive feedback is rare and too often the only feedback is negative, so I make it a point to give positive feedback as well as negative, whichever is appropriate.

Sometimes, you get a nice surprise. When I visited Ruger's website and told them how happy we are with the Ruger LCP pistol, a few weeks later, a package arrived from Ruger and it was a very nice baseball cap with their logo, which I proudly wear to the pistol range!

I don't think I'll upgrade for I want to get out of under contracts, buy new (unlocked), and go prepay. That's my goal, anyway. I have my heart set on the Lumia. This is what they offer today if one buys outright -> Only two Windows 8 phones.

This is why I came to the conclusion that using prepaid cell service wins over at the end of the day, or at the end of two years. T-Mobile right now has their 4G prepaid monthly service going, which I'll be utilizing soon. Thirty dollars a month for 150 minutes of talk, unlimited texting, and unlimited 4G data (if the bandwidth for 4G speeds is in my area) that gets throttled after five gigs. PLENTY fine for me, as what I was getting with att.

Smartphone prices out of contract are preposterous! 600+ dollars?! That's a Windows 8 PC!!

Ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah are out of contract prices real high! That's the thing about this prepaid thing, it's a high up front cost, (which means you will baby it more versus a 100 dollar on contract phone for longer, I guess) but after two years with the phone and prepaid service, it's a BIG difference! For example, an unlocked Lumia 920 is like 700 dollars. On T-Mobile's prepaid 4G service at 30 dollars a month (150 minutes of talk, unlimited text and data, throttled after 5 gigs of data usage, PLENTY for what I need and use) after two years, the grand total cost is about 1,420 dollars. Counter this with att on an individual account. 50 dollars for the phone, then about 80-90 dollars a month for service (preposterous as my home INTERNET bill isn't even CLOSE to that!) with 3 gigs of data for two years. Grand total after two years, 2,020 dollars. This is at a rate of 80 dollars a month. Which on att, that I believe will only let you have like 300 megabytes of data. I had a 24 percent discount on my bill with att before I cut and ran from them like the plague, which I'm upset at as I do believe they jacked me almost 9 dollars a month on my bill since it's now coming across to me that they weren't totally clear on the billing. My bill was 85 dollars a month. Without it, according to my first statement for my first bill, would had been 90 dollars a month for what I had signed up for. Basically after everything, I would had paid almost 100 dollars a month for service without the discount. That's 2,400 dollars, versus 1,420. With that difference, you can literally buy a new Lumia 920 off contract, unlocked!

Also, I do suggest to buy insurance on it. I got a quote for 143 dollars on a Lumia 920 for two years and covers EVERYTHING! That might be a great investment to make... as well as Nokia stock... $4.20 as of Monday when it was 2.67 in October...

I just received the infamous OTA update known as "Portico" at 5pm yesterday, then had to visit the local high school because our daughter and exchange students were in the choir/orchestra Christmas concert. We were told not to take pics or video, so of course I did with the L920. The video is outstanding and the unzoomed photos are excellent. With the zoom on, the photos get a bit blurry, but that's really pushing it for a phone, not a dedicated DLSR camera. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the L920 and we'll see if the few small issues I've experienced are gone after the major update.

I'm far from a "phone pro", I'm just an IT guy with a smartphone!

I read your other post on phone cost tally also, Coke. Real savings to be had! :thumb:

The thing is that they have set plans of which I'm guessing most people don't even use up. IMO, cell service should be pay as one uses as it was back in the day -> A service charge + what one used. I think they tactfully changed it around with "packages" to their advantage through the years.

As with my daughter and I, I have to maintain the 750-minute shared call package for the next least one, which is 500 minutes (if I remember correctly) is not enough. I use calling more than she because of business. She uses approximately 100 minutes of calling if lucky, whereas I use about 400 to 600 minutes. She uses tons of texting and FB data as a teen. I caught Vz taking unlimited texting off the plan the last time I had to renew the contract when I was promised it would remain as it would be grandfathered in. I caught this upon the first bill, for it was sky high. They charge 30 cents a text on overage. That's absolutely outrageous!

The real kicker is data and really gets my goat. It's mandatory to get a data plan with a smart phone. We get 150MG a month each on our plan. She went over one month using FB while on vacation in Florida. Ugh! $$$ Of course it doesn't eat up too much when writing text in FB, it's the pics they post that eats up a lot. Of course this is when she had her old phone of which didn't have the option of turning off data. She can now with her new one. To teach her some responsibility, I taught her how to turn it off and use the WiFi in the house or anywhere else she can do so. I also set up alerts when it reaches certain points.

Anywho, using this method, we're lucky if we use half of it. In keeping somewhat of track when looking at my bills, I use around 30MB and she about 60MB on average. It was less, but she uses more since school started. If I had my way, I wouldn't have data in my plan whatsoever. Not with all the hot spots around here in the big city anyway. The only other time I really need data is out on the road looking up an address or using navigation, of which can be replaced by some other navigation. I can wait to check up on my email or news until I'm in a hot spot. So to me data plans are useless, yet mandatory and expensive!

I thought like Elvis sang -> "I'm caught in a trap! I can't walk out!" Just like Cokie figured out -> I'm going prepay come hell or high water!
