That looks OK to me. It is normal for the results of this test to vary slightly between runs, even if they are done consecutively. In order to get a truer result, I would run this test several times and then take the average of all the results. In your case, this gives a result as follows: ( 34457.14 + 34567.00 + 34561.28 ) / 3 = 34528.47

And specific reason as to why that happens?

A number of things, such as the number of process threads being executed by the CPU at a given point in time, the current speed of the CPU (and hence the memory bus). We also need to remember that the nominal bus speed (or frequency) is just that; namely it is the average speed over a period of time. At any given point in time, the actual speed might be the nominal speed, or it might equally well be slightly above or slightly below the nominal value.

It's not the variance that's the issue, it's the actual results.

This is my usual rating in 7: (4ghz +HT ON)

Winsat 4.0 ht on 8-8-8-24.JPG

This is what I got in 7 after disabling HT, upping to 4.2 and tightening the nuts off the timings (really pushed it):
Winsat 4.2 no ht 8-8-8-24.JPG

But in 8 with looser timings and lower clock speed, I am still scoring considerably higher, when by rights I probably shouldn't be.

Then again they may have re-jigged the WEI to give higher placebo scores.

The problem with all of these tests when run in a Windows environment is that other processes that are running can significantly skew the results. What sort of value do you get from a bootable version of Memtest86+ v4.20 ?

There are some command-line switches that can be used with the winsat mem tool. See winsat mem for details.

Might play with that later. Outside of a few bugs, it's stable.
