Getting Error Code 0xC004F061 When Trying To Activate

It says the Product Key is only valid for an upgrade install, whereas I have done a clean install, not wanting to drag any of Win7's junk and baggage into 8. Is there any simple way to trick the licensing service into thinking this is an upgrade install so it will activate? I read another post on EightForums that seems to imply that it can be done by doing a refresh, but i'd rather not. I purchased this key over a month ago directly from Microsoft online, and also have another upgrade key that I bought from Wal-Mart which I intend to use with my ASUS UltraBook. But neither key has been used to activate, ever.

Thanks for any help!

My issue is now solved, I found the following post on a Microsoft website, am posting this just in case, because it might help someone else. Can't guarantee it will work for everyone but it worked for me:

windows 8 activation after clean install does not accept product key - Microsoft Community

1. Run the registry editor (regedit)
2. Find the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OOBE
3. Change the value for 'MediaBootInstall' from 1 to 0
4. Open an elevated command prompt (run as admin)
5. Run the following command: slmgr -rearm
6. Reboot

Now you can activate.

This error is caused by attempting to activate an Upgrade license from a clean install.
Do you actually have a base license to work from?

@NoeIDP I'm not sure exactly what you mean by base license, since I've never heard it referred to as such, but I do have a Win7Ultimate Upgrade Product Key that i bought on a student discount several yrs ago when 7 was first released. I was in college at the time and was able to get it for around $30. But like i said, it was an Upgrade key as well, so it was only meant for upgrading from Vista to 7. I'm sure that i could simply install 7, activate with that key, and then install 8 and my 8 Upgrade key would work fine, theoretically. It probably checks to see whether a previous installation of 7 was present on the machine (and licensed) at the time 8 was installed. But as i've said, i dont want to drag any of 7's baggage into 8. And besides that, i lost my 7 Upgrade key awhile back, have tried calling Microsoft to retrieve it and they wouldnt divulge the info. They said i would need to contact the college i was attending, and the vendor that sold me the 7 Upgrade license. I've tried that as well, no luck. so now i'm being careful to keep my 8 Pro/WMC keys in a safe place. I know exactly what the error code i got means, M$ just wants more $$$ for a full/System Builder license, which i'm not going to give them, considering their failure to help me in regards to retrieving my 7 Upgrade key. And besides that i also remember buying a copy of Vista shortly after it was released, and like most people was very disapointed. with that said, i'm not paying them any more than i have to, mainly just another 8 Pro key and a Windows Media Center license for a 3rd laptop i have, and that's it, nothing more. Thanks for the reply anyway though.
