I upgraded my friends Acer Iconia W500 yesterday and after the upgrade order was processed the key was displayed in the upgrade assistant.

I upgraded my desktop and got the key the next day. I upgraded my laptop and used a different email address and never got a key. I have tried 5 times since December 2nd. Not one email from Microsoft. I even checked my spam folder every day. I'm going to try again tonight.

Anyone know how to uninstall WMC? Its not showing up anywhere in installed programs and cant uninstall from the metro start screen.

Hi all - complete novice here so please bear with! - I received an email from Microsoft to say I must activate my free product key by Jan 31 - it then gives me the product key - and the steps to follow to add same. However, try as I might - I cannot get those steps to work. Any advice please would be much appreciated.

If you have already activated with that key don't worry about it. I got the same e-mail and its for a key I got a while back. It's just a reminder to use it e-mail. If you just requested it and just received it, that's a different story. if that's the case post back and we'll help you sort it out.

You can't, you'd have to reinstall to go back to 8 Pro. there is a trick to get around it, I think its in a similar thread on the sister site Windows 7 forums. I'll have a look and see if I can find it and get back to you.

Assuming you have used the 'Turn Windows Features On or Off' tutorial already + you have Windows Pro, try the following:

1. Press Windows+R key to open the Run dialog, type slui.exe 3, and click/tap OK.

2. Type in your new 25-digit product key number, verify it is correctly typed in, and click/tap on Activate.

eg: in February my hd breaks (oh well I hope is not the case! ) > I do a clean install of Win8 from scratch on a new hd and I make its activation > then I enter the MediaCenter serial which I already used previously > what happens?

Yes, you can use it again latter on, even on a clean install, as long as you activate it at least once before the 31st.
