This limitation confuses me:

Your product key must be activated no later than January 31, 2013.
I would assume that keys that have not been activated until February 1st will no longer work. I get that, Microsoft doesn't want people stockpiling free keys.

But what if I have to re-install my Windows after that time? Will I have to buy a new one or will Microsoft be clever enough to at least allow activation of any key that has at least been activated once before that date?

So far I've tried it three times and got the "Thank you, Your product key will be emailed to you" message, but I never actually get the e-mail with the product code in it?

OK, it's probably been that long since the first request. I thought I might have made a typo the first time so I tried again. That was yesterday and when I saw this thread that reminded me that I still hadn't gotten it so I just tried it again a couple of minutes ago. I just wasn't expecting the big delay, this kind of stuff from Microsoft doesn't usually take so long.

Yeah, the delay is most certainly quite odd and there are massive differences between wait times as well. Some people get the key in under an hour, others are still waiting. I entered my e-mail several times and even tried another one (live.com instead of gmail.com) - eventually I gave up after not having even a trace of a response after several hours.
This morning I got a giant pile of e-mails from Microsoft at the exact same time. The same key, several times on one e-mail and a different one on the other.

Just got one in my inbox. :thumb: It will be interesting to see if I get any more, I tried three times. I would imagine the activate by Jan 31st 2013 means you have to use or loose it. If you don't activate before that date you code expires and is no good after that date. If you activate before that cut off date you can keep using it even after that date. It wouldn't make sense (to me anyway) to block it after that date even if used/activated. Its typical though for Microsoft to print something like that and let you try and figure it out.

Just got one in my inbox. :thumb: It will be interesting to see if I hey any more, I tried three times.
Hi everyone.

doesn't work.
tried om a VM where I set the date to one day before W8 expiry -- fine

after expiry -- didn't work.

tried again where date was set on a NEW VM past the W8 expiry date.

No joy either.

I'd suggest don't try these dubious methods of activating W8 -- just download the version you want.

Cheers
jimbo

Only works on an 'upgrade' install... I mean if you have the unactivated Windows 8 Pro, it will not work to activate Media Center.

Took about 18 hrs but got mine. It installed but didn't auto activate so I had to do it manually and all is fine.
