Get Windows 10 Shows Up In Taskbar?

Personally I would not click on anything that pops up like that. Without knowing if it is malware. Clicking on that icon, can open you up to allowing your machine to be infected.

It's not a pop-up. It's already running and in the task bar with no way to exit. So if it had been malware, it would have meant your machine was already infected so opening up an active program couldn't make it worse.

[Can I have a step by step to uninstall it? Thanks!

Press the Windows key on your keyboard along with the R key. The run box should pop up. Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.

Click on 'View Installed Updates'.

Scroll down until you find KB3035583. Right click on it and then select 'Uninstall'.

I wonder if we will get a key so that if we have to do a reload in the future we can re-install 10 instead of first having to install 7/8.1?

I know that previous upgrade Windows products, you could install the 'upgrade' version on a clean hard drive by inserting the CD of the previous version as verification.

And I wonder if it's different for OEM Windows 7/8.1 installs? With Windows 8.1 machines not coming with original disks and not having COA's (yes I know there are tools to read the key from the BIOS but a LOT of people don't know/know how to do that).... again, what if you need to do a reload later? And OEM machines with Windows 7 sometimes come with restore disks that does not prompt the user for a key.

Hopefully MS will make it easy and provide us with an actual key to do reloads later.

I haven't gotten any notification popups on my Windows 8.1 desktop PC but when I opened Windows update I got this.

I reserved mine.

Still not seeing this at all on my Tablet

Laptop is sorted and ready, but want to wait a while before upgrading tablet, so want to check it hasn't reserved it for all my devices

It's just a "reservation". You should still be able to opt out if you want. All it does it set you up to be notified when the free upgrade is available. That's my understanding anyway.

From the FAQ

What happens when I reserve?

When you reserve, you can confirm your device is compatible with Windows 10. Between reservation and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need for the upgrade will be downloaded to your PC to make the final installation go more quickly. Then, when your upgrade is ready after July 29, 2015, you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade.

Cheers, that's exactly what I want on my Laptop, due to slow BB, so come release day it should just be ready to install, not need downloading

Tablet, I want to wait a while before doing anything with it, check out more reviews when people have been using

If I change my mind, can I cancel my reservation?

Yes, you can cancel your reservation at any time prior to installing Windows 10. Here’s how:

  • Right click on the Get Windows 10 App or Windows icon located in right end of the taskbar.
  • Select “Check your upgrade status”
  • Select “Cancel reservation”

What if I have more than one Windows device—can I upgrade them all?

Yes, you can get a free upgrade for each of your eligible Windows devices. All you need to do is make a separate reservation for each device you want to upgrade.

Update today - Windows 10 Will Be Released July 29th, Reserve Your Free Copy Now

Today, Microsoft has finally announced when it will be rolling out the newest version of Windows: July 29th will be the big day. To prepare for the date, Microsoft is sending out notifications to users of older versions prompting them to reserve their free copy.
The reservation process is simply a way to opt-in to the free upgrade ahead of time. Once it becomes available, if you’ve opted-in, the update will automatically download and install for free. Microsoft hasn’t yet explained any details about how, when, or if the company will start charging for Windows, however it seems likely that you’ll still have a chance to get the free upgrade if you don’t reserve it now. However, if you know you’ll be upgrading, it’s a handy way to expedite the process once July 29th rolls around. If you’re still on the fence about whether or not you want to install Windows 10, here’s everything you need to know.

Or it can be disabled by disabling/deleting GWX tasks in Task Scheduler's library - Windows - Setup.

I can't believe that people are "furious" that Microsoft is will to give them the next version of Windows for free. It isn't being forced on you, but it isn't going to cost you anything, and by almost all accounts from those (myself included) who are actively testing it, an improved OS.

Proof positive that Microsoft can't make everyone happy. Maybe Windows 11 will need to come with $100 strapped to the packaging.

For those of you that don't want to see the icon in the task bar or receive the notifications, just click on "Customize" in the System Tray and turn the "Get Windows 10" notifications off. There's no need to uninstall any updates.

I completely agree, its amazing isn't it? Apart from the fact I love freebies, I also buy outright that which impresses me. Win 10 is free, if you, or anybody, wants it - go for it - if not damn well ignore it.

What! Not use the newest and best:shock:! But then again, I read an article last month, that there are people still using Dial-up(if they can stand the noise, go for it);) Resilience to change.
