FTP Hassle

I have a Matebook 14 laptop with Windows 10 home edition which is on my wi-fi network. I want to connect to it from my Windows 8.1 PC (to transfer files) which does not have wi-fi but is connected to the net using ethernet. I have enabled the FTP on my laptop using a couple of website for guidance and on my PC it appears under Network as a laptop. But when I click on it it requires the log in details for this PC (I assume). I have tried that but no luck; it always says the username or password is inorrect.
Can anyone offer some advice?

I've always liked the "Sneaker Net". Never heard of it? Well, that's where you copy your data to a removable media and then with your sneaker on, you walk to the other computer and upload you files to the new computer. I suppose that slippers, loafers or Combat Boots would work just as well.

There is also a program called "Team Viewer" that you can use with two computers to transfer files or even take over the second PC, and run it like your own.
I've done that between my own PC, here in Florida, and one at a friends house in California. I could upload programs to his PC, and then run those program on his PC to install and set them up.

If memory serves, there is a FREE version of that program. It must be installed on Both Computers.
