Although a lot of the information can be found in the new Task Manager, I like to sometimes look at the Resource Monitor (the button can also be found in the performance tab). Resource Monitor it is a huge source of information. At first I had a hard time to easily find it (had to go to the perfmon.exe), but now I found an easy way:

Win+X > Computer Management > Performance (in the left pane) > 'Open Resource Monitor' link.

If you right click down in the lower left corner where the Start screen popup appears that will also bring up another menu of options for Windows Accessories, Disk Management, System tools, Run, Search, etc.

Yeah, that is the same as Win+X. I prefer the keyboard shortcuts because on my Virtual Box screen the corners are not that well defined. If I go one millimeter over the edge, I am in Win7 land.

Well if you prefer using shortcuts there's been a few blogs on them since the Developer Preview was first seen. IT World has one seen at Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts | ITworld

Another one can be looked over at Keyboard Shortcuts Of Windows 8

Here I went direct into the system32 folder as well as browsing the Program Files and Program Files(x86) directories for the main executables to create an addon toolbar as well as the main Start>Programs folders to find everything. So far that has been working out good! :D

Yeah, there is no shortage of shortcut lists. I made my own little list of the 10 most used. More I cannot remember - LOL.

Once I dug through everything here I ended up with a few combinations! :roflmao:

After I had those added on I then ran across the Apps screen.

You sure invest a lot of work. Right now I have no ambition to replicate my Win7 - especially since I run Win8 in vBox under Win7.

I'll have to try the 32bit flavor on VM Player 4.0 soon enough to see how that goes. But I was mainly looking a full install of the 64bit for compatibility testing to see what will and won't. Also need an updated version of PaintNet, UltraMon(not seen yet), Trial version of DisplayFusion was able to add move button to swap monitors for any open window.

That good ole Legacy 98-XP compatible RTCW and when I get to it Soldier of Fortune I+II will be looked at as well. Some Steam games also went on without a hitch as expected. But besides the need for a normal install to HD getting around in the CP to find out where everything is has been the largest concern right from the start even with the Developer Preview.

Hmm, that does not work on this system because Win8 runs in Virtual Box. I get into a Win7 screen.

He meant in task manager.

Open task manger switch into performance tab and in lower left there is a button to open resource monitor.

Perfmon.exe found in "C:\Windows\system32\"! I simply right clicked on that to create a shortcut for a addon utility toolbar for quick access. For anything you want instant access to that's one way to see that taken care of.

Right. That's how I did it initially. A bit awkward though.

Well that's why it ended up in a folder used for a new toolbar not just left on the desktop. But youi can also pin the shortcut to the taskbar as another option. I did that for the snipping tool when not finding Accessories until the new toolbar for Programs was seen to.

On a VM not direct install to a drive you won't be finding the ProgramData folder at all. :( That left out making a toolbar for Programs since there was no main folder to find! Manual this and manual that shortcut being added to each toolbar it seems.

Huh!

In VMPlayer. It's a hidden folder.

You mean I might have to go into the folder options>view tab?! :roflmao:

I got a little busy trying to figure out why I am not able to connect online with the VM Player install so enjoy the view! The previous 32bit install ran into the same problem "network adapter not detected" but under "other devices" it clearly shows the Realtek PCI GBE Family controller, sound card(creative), tv tuner card, SCSI controllers while you are not able to install device drivers on a VM.

The install there was for reference while booted in 7 while I still have a normal install to drive working if I need to boot into that as I will back and forth over time.
