Flash Removal in Windows Updates

You can use Classic Shell for that in Windows 8. Also let's not talk about Windows 8, its not related to this topic???
Actually, Windows 8 is what I'm using, so it's definitely relevant. The effect of Server 2012 updates and Flash vs the use of Windows 8.1 updates bears the same result.
Plus, it's nice to actually have some relevant conversation on this forum, on the OS that this forum is ACTUALLY about. So it's all good to me.

As does Windows 8 when using Classic Shell :D. I don't know about the weather app (or any Metro apps). I've eradicated them from my system.
Classic Shell isn't there by default on a freshly installed Windows 8 PC. You add that after setting up. So by default when you first set up your PC it'll boot you into the Metro UI.

Ah sounds good for me 😁 I just don't want to break any rules so i have to read em now

From what I knew, the Security Only updates for July, August and September 2021 have the Flash removal. So I am glad to see that October does not.

NO, Jody!
only the July & Aug. 2021 security-only updates have flash removal. the Sept. 2021 security-only updates (like KB5005607 & KB5005627) DO NOT have them as Microsoft mistakenly mentioned them in their support articles but don't actually have the flash removal files

Several hours ago, I installed Win8.1 Pro on an old Dell laptop and installed the KB5005627 Sep. 2021 security-only update, rebooted and guess what Jody, the Flash.ocx, FlashUtil_Activex.dll & FlashUtil_Activex.exe files from the Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\ folder remained intact - they were not removed.

Well that's good to know erpster4. Mind you, I won't take a chance installing it for now :)

well fortune favors the brave like me, so I took that chance with KB5005627 and it paid off with aces - the adobe flash activex files remain untouched
and I'm very confident beyond any reasonable doubt that the KB5005607 Sep. 2021 security-only update for Win8 / Server 2012 will also produce the same result
heck, I may even conduct further tests and install Win8.0 on another machine and install KB5005607 to see if the flash files will not get removed

I actually love being able to come to this forum for a change and actually have useful, current and engaged discussion on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. So often, this forum is just used for Windows Mail integration, Windows 10 upgrading, or games. I love being able to discuss current Windows issues that AREN'T Windows 10 or 11.
