16 GB RAM on main desktop computer

Virtual Machines for normal users / developers don't have to be very large - even Virtual servers -- I'm running some XP virtual machines of of only around 640 MB -- since these VM's are only used for specific legacy apps they are fine.
BTW to add your user name to the _vmware_ group go into control panel and choose administrative tools.
