Hi! I just got a windows 8.1 laptop, everything works fine except when I try to open files. It takes me more than a minute to load this PC, downloads, or any other folders. I don't really know what to do. Thank you very much for the help!
Okay, well..., I just finished updating someone's laptop to Windows 8.1 and there was an interesting KB2962409 that came through in 'Optional Updates', which I think I've seen before, but decided to research it a little deeper this time:
If there is a C:\users\<Username>\OneDrive folder, Explorer tries to check the MSA information. However, if your account is not connected to a MSA, the SkyDriveShell.dll module freezes for 30 seconds during the initialization.
(There's been quite a few posts lately about folders taking long to load in Explorer so I found this to be somewhat interesting!)
Symptoms:
You have a computer that is running Windows RT 8.1 or Windows 8.1.
Your account is not connected to a Microsoft Account (MSA).
The computer has Microsoft Office 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) preinstalled, or you have previously connected your account to a MSA and have since disconnected from it.
