How to "Hide file names" of Files in Picture and Video Folders in Windows 7 and Windows 8

information   Information
This tutorial will show you how to "hide file names" of all files in any folder using a Pictures or Videos template in Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Note   Note

  • This will only be applied to your user account
  • In Libraries, this will only work in the Pictures and Videos library.
  • File names will only be hidden while the folder is set to view with Extra large icons, Large icons, or Medium icons in Windows 7 or Windows 8.
  • This will not hide the file names of folders.

Here's How:

1. If you have not already, you will need to set the folder the files are in to have a Pictures or Videos folder template in Windows 7 or Windows 8. (see screenshot below)

Note   Note
If you like, you could check or uncheck the Also apply this template to all subfolders box for what you would like.

2. Set the folder to view with Extra large icons, Large icons, or Medium icons in Windows 7 or Windows 8.

3. In Windows 7, click on View (menu bar) and Hide file names, OR right click on an empty area in the folder and click on View and Hide file names. (see screenshot below)

4. In Windows 8, right click or press and hold on an empty area in the folder, and click/tap on View and Hide file names. (see screenshot below)

Note   Note
You can click/tap on Hide file names again to toggle to hide and unhide the file names in Windows 7 and Windows 8.
