Feedback and fixes

Hello,

1) Why cant I import my avatar from SF? Ok, it doesnt really matter but would be nice.

2) Why dont I have the option not to display any flag?

3) I cant figure out this blue envelope and red envelope things! They are most confusing.

OK, now I feel better. But why cant I insert a smiley here?

My Computer

You can insert smileies you just need to click 'Go Advanced' on the bottom right of the reply box or memorise the shortcut eg : ) = :) (without the space).

Thanks, I've put it back in my avatar!

But, why do i have to choose Advanced to post a smiley? Comeon! It ought to be there in the Quick reply option.

My Computer

Your avatar's looking good. :)

As regards having to use the Advanced section for smilies, I've no idea on that score, sorry. :(

Bill2 this forum is using a more advanced software than SF so basically we are helping to betea test it, i, like you , am having a little difficulty trying to find things but you get used to it eventually its a learning curve for us all ;)

My Computer

In three of my most recent posts, I attempted to attach images. I prefer png images due to the small size and improved quality. However, in all instances, the png images were shown to be jpg images and would not display in the post. When I converted the images to jpg, they uploaded and displayed correctly. Not sure where this is coming from, the new Eight Forums or my IE8 browser?

Why are png images not being saved correctly?

Are you using the advanced picture uploader?

Try changing it back to the basic traditional one in settings and then try.

The files attach correctly, but it is probably the file size restriction that is causing the problem, and I would say that they are too restrictive and would certainly need increasing in due course.

Really? I can see it perfectly well in Mobile Safari.

Try changing your forum theme to vb4style-Ole'Blue.

It's the theme I use and the only one that renders correctly on non IE browsers; it also solves the issue with thread page numbers appearing in the wrong order.

Maybe when John does the big overhaul in a couple of months he'll raise the png picture size.

Thanks Dwarf;

The thing is FF displays all of the pictures without issue. As for the size, the jpg sizes were 19.2 KB and 35.5 KB whereas the pgn sizes (the ones that do not show in IE8) were 5.4 KB and 15.4 KB?

Also even though I saved them as png, the file extension shown was jpg? Here is your image that would not display in my IE8. It says it is a jpg, but in FireFox is displays and says this is a pgn file?

To me, this is looking more like a IE8 issue?

That doesn't surprise me, this forum isn't totally compatible with any browser yet :p.

Safari, Chrome, opera and Firefox can't render page numbers correctly and now we find IE8 can't render pngs correctly.

Two things:

Have you tried compatability view, you never know.

Where does one find the lists showing rep given and rep recieved on this forum? I can't find them :p.

Thanks again for the suggestion, Oli!

As for the rep ... look under "Settings" tab, top right, next to "Log Out" (on the skin I am using).

Cheers!
