Solved Facebook messenger won't work

#1
Hi People!

I know the new Windows has a built in messenger system, but I think it's awful.
I can't get it to use my MSN account, it will only use my microsoft account, which is not the same e-mail address, and even if I could get it to do what I want, I'll still miss my taskbar and the flashing icons telling me who's talking to me. I also generally dislike the idea of not having a clear idea of which system you're 'talking on'. You just open a conversation, not knowing whether it will go through Facebook messenger, MSN messenger, whatever.
So I installed good old MSN messenger 8.5 beta. Then I tried installing Facebook messenger, as I don't like in-browser chatting (again; No taskbar, no overview). Doesn't work. Gives me an error 1603.
No solutions on the net so far.
Any ideas?

Works awful. Again there's no way to choose to which service your message goes. Oddly enough, MSN prefers to use facebook.

There's also a reason why I still use messenger 8.5. The new versions are awful to live with.

I had the exact same problem as you. You need to activate .NET Framework 3.5

To do this go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off (in the left-hand menu) -> Check the box saying .NET Framework 3.5

Once you've done that you should be able to run the installer without any problems.
