Solved Explorer.exe Event ID:1000

I've installed a fresh copy of W8/W8.1 on three systems and have resolved all the usual Event Log Errors that have been identified on this Forum. However, I have a new problem on the third system that I need help identifying a solution. The system is a Q9550 processor running on a GA-EP45-UD3P MB with 8GB of Mushkin C5 Ram and an OCZ SSD for a boot drive. For some reason the system has started to boot up OK and then after ~10 seconds the screen goes Blue and then the W8.1 screen rebuilds and all is well. I assume that the blue screen event is related to the Explorer.exe error?! Other than the event log entry and the initial blue screen the system works OK. I have included screen prints of the Event Log. Hopefully, someone can give me a hint on what the heck is going on that causes this problem.

I ran "SCF /Scannow" and if completed "successfully". Per your instructions I ran "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" and it said it fixed something. I looked at the Dism.log file and it was unreadable. I rebooted the system and got all the same stuff - W8.1 seems to start up OK and then ~10 seconds later a blank blue screen appears and then W8.1 repaints the screen and all seems OK - I still get the Explorer.exe 1000 error in the Event Log. I don't know for sure but it seems like this problem started after I let MSFT install the latest round of updates? For what it's worth I have attached more screen shots.

You might check the last two posts on the linked thread to see if they might be relevant. They seem to think restarting the "Themes" service could help.

Explorer.exe crashing - twinui.dll?

Been there, done that and it don't work for me - Disabling Themes and re-enabling to Automatic. Also tried going back to the earliest Restore Point I have and that was a disaster - for some reason all the Apps were not working - but the Explorer.exe error went away. I have tried every other Restore Point after that and then I'm back to the Explorer.exe Twinui.dll Error. I'm about ready to do the ultimate RESTORE back to W7 on this system! This is very discouraging since I have W8.1 running on two other systems with newer MB's and CPU's and have been able to resolve most of the issues and was telling people how I like W8.1. That may have been the kiss o death since I noticed today the Intel's IRST has stopped working on the ASRock Z77 OC Formula/3770K system! Again, I think it was related to the latest batch of system updates since I know it was working several days ago?! Oh well, IRST is not needed - maybe someday it will work again?

In the meantime, I really would like to get to the bottom of the TwinUI.dll problem since other than the minor blue screen/repaint everything else works as it should. And...base on the Googles I've done I'm not the only one with this problem. I have attached another screen capture showing the other Event Log Errors I'm getting which may be related to the Twinui.dll saga?

It looks like you guys gave up on my problem - so did I! Reluctantly, I bit the bullet and did a complete system restore from a backup I made after right after updating from W8 to W8.1. I made the system backup using EaseUS's free backup program so I got to prove to myself that it would restore a backup correctly. It did. Anyway, everything now works as it should after a fresh install. I will fix/rebuild all the stuff I added in the last three weeks one piece at a time and make frequent system backups in case I do whatever I did to screw up the system in the first place. Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully, I'll find out who the bad guy was/is and be able to recover more gracefully.

After several hours and many backups I am where I was when all this started - except I don't have the blue screen/repaint or Explorer.exe 1000 error. About the only thing that stands out before rebuilding the system is the POP UP window I got in Internet Explorer from one of those infamous sources saying they would like to fix a driver problem - for a fee of course. Apparently, they got into the system and created the problem when I was downloading utilities and updates?! I ran Malware's Anti-Malware and it found many errors but said they were all corrected. It looks like I should have run more of the standalone Virus fixers prior to reloading the system. Oh well, it's good to stay in practice rebuilding a system from scratch occasionally.

I got the same problem again on a different machine. This time I noticed the issue right away after I did the update to W8.1 routine. I did not have a good backup since it happened on day one so I went back and reinstalled from scratch. Problem went away. I can't believe I'm the only person having this problem. Once maybe a fluke but twice on two totally different hardware configurations?! My Comcast Cable must have a random short in it just outside my house! Never had this kind of stuff go on until I met W8.1.
