Luckily, there are various alternatives to consider and wanted input from anyone with additional option not listed below.
Free and Open Source Options:
  • VeraCrypt: This veteran offers full disk and partition encryption, boasting strong algorithms and a familiar interface. VeraCrypt is a great choice for power users comfortable with a steeper learning curve.
  • TrueCrypt: This was once a personal favorite but it discontinued source-available freeware utility used for on-the-fly encryption.
Paid Alternatives with Added Features:
  • Kaspersky Endpoint Security: This comprehensive security suite includes disk encryption alongside features like malware protection and threat detection. It's ideal for businesses seeking a layered security approach.
  • McAfee Endpoint Encryption (formerly SafeBoot): This comprehensive solution provides full-disk and file/folder encryption, boasting FIPS 140-2 validation for both modules. It offers centralized management capabilities, making it suitable for enterprise environments.
  • Sophos SafeGuard Encryption: Known for its ease of use, Sophos SafeGuard offers FIPS 140-2 validated encryption for full-disk and removable media protection.
Things to Consider When Choosing an Alternative:
  • Ease of Use: If you're not tech-savvy, prioritize user-friendly interfaces.
  • Compatibility: Ensure the software works on your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux) and hardware.
  • Features: Consider if you need full disk encryption, file/folder encryption, or pre-boot authentication.
  • Support: Free open-source options might have limited support channels, while paid solutions often include dedicated customer service.
Remember: Encryption is only as strong as your password. Always choose a complex, unique password and consider using a password manager for additional security.

Let me know in the comments if you have any specific questions about these alternatives or products you have experience using and offer superior security to BitLocker.
