Drivers, Fast Boot, System Freezing

OK so here's my issue. Since I built this computer past few months I experienced freezing with the mouse still operational. I narrowed it down to Fast Boot hibernating the drivers. Which leads me to believe that it's still an issue with the drivers. I have all my specs on my profile.. I'm wondering if anyone has ideas how to go about fixing the issue with the drivers so that I am able to activate Fast Boot again since disabling it was the only fix to the freezing..?

I have a similar issue. Since I've built my own PC I can't get Fastboot to work without ending up in a blank screen during the boot process. No mouse pointer is visible. The screen isn't necessarily black. It varies from grey to white to black. Sometimes the PC shuts itself off a few seconds after the blank screen occured and powers up thereafter. On my former PC (P35 chipset with Nvidia graphics card, Fastboot used to work like a charm. The new PC has an Asrock z87 chipset with integrated Intel graphics. All drivers are on the bleeding edge of recency; I even tried Beta drivers. Nothing seems to work. The system now is far away from a clean install due to the mess with different driver versions. Fastboot is off, the only way to boot up. I'm a frequent visitor on the Intel user forums and there are lots of users who complain about these blank screen issues: https://communities.intel.com/message/230850#230850
The issues persist since Fast Startup was introduced. Intel seems to be clueless to provide a fix. The Asrock forum sees similar posts: windows 8.1 fails to load at start up

I'm still not 100% sure whether the culprit are the graphics drivers or any other component like chipset drivers/Management Engine/Rapid Storage or Windows itself. If somebody is out there who finds all the written to be familiar and was able to fix it, PLEASE let us know how. Thanx!

Well for mine, it's obvious to me it's one of the drivers or multiples.. To pin-point which ones they are, that's another story.. I'm not sure what steps I should take to try to figure out which ones are the issue. I mean, it doesn't take as long to load as my older store bought computer but it's taking longer than it did with fast boot enabled. All else fails, I'd rather have a stable computer than for it to boot up faster and freeze all of the time, but I'd like to see if there's a way to figure out what's causing the issue and fix it so that Fast Boot can be enabled again..

I had the same problem after upgrading my Toshiba L775 laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. After a significant amount of troubleshooting and re-installing Windows, I flashed a BIOS upgrade and VOILA!!!... problem solved. If you haven't checked for a BIOS firmware update, you might give that a try.

BIOS updates are always a good idea. Mine is the latest version. UEFI is admittedly easier to setup as the ancestor, but I'm still not confident with all its options. There is some "Fast Boot" option which should affect the startup when the OS is setup in UEFI mode. Altering the value doesn't affect anything on my machine. Sure, SSD's accelerate the boot process in a noticable way compared to HDD's, Fast Boot would gain another 4 or five senconds (and it took me more time to write about its malfuntioning than I would ever save in the next decade, but it is frustrating to have a brand new machine/OS not acting as it should. But that's maybe the early adopters sentence

I flashed the latest BIOS when I first started experiencing the freezing.. I had literally done just about everything there was apart from replacing every piece of hardware in the computer.. I reinstalled the OS, that would provide a temporary fix for about 2 weeks and then it would start freezing again.. I replaced the RAM with something better too.. I duel booted Win7 and 7 would run fine and 8 would freeze up.. I changed settings in BIOS, I changed settings in Windows8.1.. Someone said it was an update so I uninstalled all updates and ran it like it was for awhile to see if that was the cause, it wasn't.. There were tons of errors in the event logs every time it would freeze up, nothing online revealed any good information about them.. I literally tried everything I could think of and everything I found online about others who have had the same or similar.. Then I was browsing around not even looking for a solution and stumbled across an explanation about Fast Boot and had the idea to disable it and see if that helps. I haven't had a single freeze since then and it's been a good 4 weeks since the last freeze.. I want to find a fix though as I've stated previously, and BIOS was one of the things I've already tried

Hi there,
For a few days I have been having some problems with my computer. Whenever I shutdown properly and then start again, the Desktop loads fine and after a few seconds of coming to the desktop. I see a black screen in front of me, I try to press num lock on and off to see if the system froze, it indeed froze. I disabled fastboot, after that even if I start after shutdown, it boots fine.

If I restart, it boots fine. Not sure why as my system should be fully compatible with fast boot. Here is my system specs, everything is updated as of posting:

MSI Z87 - G43 Gaming Motherboard with latest BIOS
Sapphire TriX R9 290 OC
Samsung 250GB 840 EVO
8GB RAM

Try to disable fastboot, thats what I did. I'm not sure whether it is a driver issue or anything else. Give latest drivers a try, if it not works, disable fastboot. With an 840 EVO you should espect almost the same startup time, so disabling fastboot doesn't hurt too much.
