Solved Computer crashing

Hello my computer has been freezing/crashing over the past few months - I have still not managed to fix this problem. My computer will simply freeze (unable to do anything) and it will require a hard-reset, after restarting there will be no error logs etc.

This happens under GPU intensive tasks like watching videos in chrome/opera and playing games.
However today, when I was watching a video on YouTube - I noticed that everything started to slow down; mouse moment was extremely laggy - I managed to ALT-F4 out of chrome; after that I couldn't really do much, like bring up task manager etc. After a few minutes Windows finally blue screened with the error 'DPC watchdog violation'.

Things that I've tried so far:
  • Reseated RAM and GPU
  • Reinstalled GPU drivers (used display driver uninstaller and installed drivers from Nvidia's website)
  • Moved GPU to another PCI-E lane (only one PCIE card installed in my system)
  • I've ran the following tests:
  • Heaven Benchmark 4.0 - NO crashes during test
  • MSI Kombuster - NO crashes during test
  • MEM-Test and Windows memory diagnostic test - NO RAM errors

Computer components:
CPU: Intel Pentium G3220 3.0GHz
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII GENE Micro ATX
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
Storage: Sandisk Solid State Drive 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB TWIN FROZR
Power Supply: Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Get ALL available updates from the motherboard manufacturer's website
3. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
4. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Hi, the freezing has continued; at least I'm not getting any BSODs!! Should I start a new thread in the performance and maintenance sub-forum?

Freezing after a BSOD problem isn't unusual.
We'll give a try at fixing it here first.

Please do the following (do it immediately after rebooting from the freeze - that'll force it to the top of the reports):
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Hi, my PC hasn't locked up/frozen during the past week however it has blue screened (as described in my first post; the computer becomes very laggy and unresponsive). Anyway I'm getting the I5 4690K soon, for Christmas :D

Recently we've had many problems with the NTIOLib_x64.sys driver. Please uninstall the MSI utilities that came with the system/motherboard. Then search the hard drive for NTIOLib_x64.sys - if anything remains, see if you can identify (and uninstall) it. If not, post back and let us know and we'll give suggestions on how to remove it.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Another BSOD... I have already uninstalled all MSI tools. Also I removed AI Suit 3 about two weeks ago now.

Just FYI - some BSOD's are easy to fix, some are hard. This appears to be one of the hard one's. Please be patient - it sometimes takes up to 6 pages of posts before we finish a topic.

Freeze ups and black screen errors are common problems with systems that suffer from BSOD's. If they remain after we fix the BSOD's, then we'll work on them.

The Event viewer logs only have events from 8 Dec
Of those events your problems seem to be with: License activation, your Intel Ethernet drivers, and RA2\gamemd.exe.

This memory dump blames the SATA controller drivers from AS Media.

Asmedia ASM-106x Sata 6G controller
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=asstor64.sys
As this is also a STOP 0x133 error, I have to wonder if there are other drivers that are actually causing the crash.
Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
Please also update the drivers for the Asmedia SATA Controller Driver V2.0.8.1 for Windows 7/8/8.1 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL) from the Asus website (they're in the SATA section on the downloads page for Win8.1).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hello,
Thank you, I understand that this may take a while to fix but I really want to get it fixed! I've been stressing over it for a few months now; lost work etc etc.

Anyway, I updated/repaired the AsMedia SATA driver. However I couldn't find the relevant driver for AsUpIO.sys on the ASUS website. Finally the Serial emulator/adapter driver is already up to date, (used to program micro-controllers) however I'll uninstall it to be on the safe side.

Lastly while I was playing CSGO today I froze...again... I had a look at the event viewer and there were no obvious causes.
I'll run the driver verifier tests SOON!

If you really want to fix it fast, the quickest way is to do a clean install of Windows.
While that will wipe out all of your data, it'll setup Windows the way it was meant to be setup - without any additional software that may cause problems. Here's a link on how to do a clean install: Canned Speeches

Should the BSOD's continue after that, then it's most likely a hardware problem.
To diagnose that, you first run these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
If the problem isn't discovered there, then you can proceed with a hardware stripdown (instructions here: Hardware Stripdown Troubleshooting )

Don't worry about the AsUpIO.sys driver for now. I have you check in case Asus has updated it recently - but it hasn't been updated by Asus in a long time.

ACPI errors in the event log suggest checking for an updated BIOS.

Several errors when attempting to read the local HOSTS file. I see other access issues (such as Windows Update being restricted from getting drivers by local policy). Have you tweaked the local policy/permission settings?

I've gotta wonder about the integrity of the OS. There's a lot strange errors that shouldn't be there (such as dll issues with ReadyBoost).

I'll wait and see what happens with Driver Verifier.......

The BIOS is up to date (Version 2012).

Also when I used Display Driver Uninstaller to re/uninstall the GPU drivers there is an option to disallow windows to download GPU drivers

I5 4690K should come tomorrow! :)

OK, let's start over with a new set of reports.
Also, please try this after a few freezes:
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Hope you had a good Christmas,

It was going good for a week now! :( And finally a froze. When it froze I unplugged monitor and plugged it in again; there was no single after that...

A couple of months ago I requested a RMA from the company that I bought the GPU from. One of the questions were "what causes the issue? Programs/events etc etc". Well I can't really tell them what causes the freeze as I was simply browsing reddit (with no videos/games in the background). I had a look at the event viewer after and there was nothing unusual; just like the ones I sent last time...

The Admin.evtx file is sort of a summary - we use it for helping to look for patterns.

The other reports gather the Application and System event logs (in addition to other reports). They have more information, but are more difficult to find patterns in. But, at times, it's necessary to look at them in that degree of detail.
