Does anyone know how to turn off the hardware acceleration? I tried doing it the way you are supposed to do it in Windows 7, but the tab in the control panel isn't there. Anyone know how to do this? Also I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

I've found it's grayed out in Win7 x64 for both ATI and Nvidia cards. I guess all their settings are to be found in their respective control panel applets.

Hello dvrocknroll, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Do you mean to turn off hardware acceleration in IE10? If so, it's the same method as in the tutorial below. :)

Hope this helps,

No, sorry I meant generally for the computer, I think.

I've found it's grayed out in Win7 x64 for both ATI and Nvidia cards. I guess all their settings are to be found in their respective control panel applets.

This is closer to what I meant, the problem is that I cannot find the settings for the card. I found some PhysX properties, but "No Acceleration" is already checked off and I can't change that. How to turn off Windows global hardware acceleration
This is what I am trying to do, but the tab in advanced settings, titled "troubleshoot" isn't there in windows 8.

That's exactly what I was referring to. Microsoft may have removed the tab because the sole thing on it, a button labeled "Change settings", was always grayed out in Windows 7, at least it was for me on Nvidia and ATI cards as I mentioned. So the tab was kind of pointless.

So now my problem is that I cant find the new place to change those settings.

I know how to disable on windows 8.

1. you click on the tools section in Internet Explorer
2. Click on Internet Options
3.Go to the advanced tab.
4. and click the box next to " use software rendering instead of GPU rendering"

Hope this helped!

Try to update your graphic drivers from the specific cards Nvidia/AMD/Intel.

Sometimes the settings are grayed out in Win7 as well:

It says clearly that only if the current driver allows it, you will be able to change the settings. Als long as the graphics card allows it AND the OS as well.

In Windows 8:
It's is enabled to the max, and the troubleshoot tab is removed. This way the GPU will render when needed and not the CPU. Messing with the hardware acceleration this way will not be possible.
