Do you obey the speed limit?

Add my to the list of people who hate those dumbass mufflers on those little cars. They sound like a lawn mower in desperate need of a tune up.

I'm all for cars, but get some real performance, not some dinner plate sized muffler that causes your car to nearly backfire.

I love rolling up next to them in my station wagon and then watch them eventually pass me as I'm doing the speed limit, albeit I just got there a whole lot quicker and also dragging about 50% more car around.

@ Coke

They are very nice cars. My son bought a repo at a very reasonable price. Has a few dings that are not too noticeable. I forget what model. The smaller 4dr sedan. Black over black. Automatic. Acceleration that'll kick one's head back. Stops on a dime. Very tight steering and suspension. Unbelievable technology!

The trouble with high performance cars is the high tolerances. They're like dating a young girl when we were young. They need a lot of attention! Work on it you will! :)

@ Bill

LOL! Acknowledge :D I like your "safe" statement :) I can picture you bopping around in a small service van! Yes?

I hear in California that if one doesn't keep up with traffic on the freeways they'll get bumped by another in the rear. Is that true?

@ Patrick

LOL! Lawn mower in need of a tuneup! Perfect description! I also hear that traffic and road rage around Motown is the pits? True?

For the most part I drive the posted speed limit, but if I am on a highway where all the other vehicles are driving faster I will spped up to stay with the flow, otherwise a person would get run over! :p

I have to admit.. I drive a bit fast out on the open road, I've only had 1 ticket so far.
I hate driving in a pack.. so I'll manuver my way out and get ahead, then slow to a reasonable speed.
All of my friends and family love to have me as the driver, so they tell others.
YEs I know there are speed limits for safety, YES, I never try to get out of a ticket when I have been stopped.
I readily admit I was most likly speeding along listening to the radio or cd.

I always obey speed limits - that is what they are a limit ( get my halo tomorrow ):dinesh:

Best do I had (I am in UK) about 1963 I had a Ford Prefect nice little car only had three cylinders and an anchor to stop.

Driving to Manchester one day got stopped by motorcycle cop. " Do you realise you were doing 80 and this is a 40 limit" Me "This is a prefect with three cylinders and going downhill with the wind behind me have never been over 50 so could I have a certificate to say I was doing 80" Cop " Have a nice day but watch your speed"

I drive the speed limit around town (I actually set my cruise control to the posted speed limit). Out on the freeway, I set the cruise control to 5 over the posted limit. I don't see many highway patrol cars on the road anymore but when I do I have to laugh at the majority of drivers around me. I don't react when I see a CHP car but the drivers around me all hit their brakes and drive exactly the speed limit so I tend to pass them by. After the CHP pulls off they all speed up and pass me again.

Then there are the REAL idiots that slow down when they approach a CHP that has stopped a car on the side of the road. What do they think is gonna happen? Do they think the officer will stop writing the ticket for the person he has stopped, jump in his car and chase them down? It seems to me that is the time to put the peddle to the metal since the officer patrolling this section of the freeway is predisposed.

I have thought the same thing many times! And yes, slowing down when they see a CHP. If you are going 65, and the weather is clear, and traffic not heavy, just keep going. A Guy

I have driven through Texas from north to south and it takes almost as long to come from my home state of Minnesota to the Texas border as it does to go from the border down to the Rio Grande Valley. So the increased speed limits in Texas are very welcome! :p

I saw an article where the first death crash was reported on the 85mph highway, is that the same one? edit, never mind, I see you're not IN TX!

I know the news is all over this speed limit story, but that stretch of road is not like a regular freeway situation. People die in crashes every day, and many have nothing to do with going too fast. :(
