Solved Disk usage always on 100% or 99% and often the computer runs slowly

On task manager my disk usage always is at 100% or 99% and it often runs slowly. It takes ages to finish loading when I login to windows and it takes long to search my hard drive and open programs.

I have tried

• Wiping out my computer and reinstalling windows
• Replacing my hard drive
• Running chkdsk (no errors were found)
• Running "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth"
• Disabling the Defragmenting scheduled task
• Increasing my paging file size to match the amount of RAM my computer has

This appears to be a software or windows issue.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I was running Win 10 not long ago on a single core Celeron D356 with 512 MB of 400 speed RAM on the original PATA HDD and you wanna talk about slow The lil i3 is no speed demon but shouldn't have any problems, as well as having 8 GB of 1600 RAM and what looks like it should be a decent 5400 RPM HDD "for a laptop". So how much space is used and free ? Did you defrag after installing the OS and other programs before turning the schedule off ?

Since You've already made a fresh install, even on a new HDD. I'll assume you did it with an Original Microsoft ISO that didn't include any Factory Bloatware like the Resource Eating McAfee So the next thing to consider would be if you've installed any software that may have contained Malware. Have you run full scans with Win Defender as well as Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware ?

While Win 8+ OSs are very capable of finding usable drivers, they won't always find the latest or best drivers, so how have you been updating drivers ?

You'll have more suggestions coming from other members but this is just to give both you and us a place to start

I have not yet defragmented my computer. When I do, I use Puran Defrag as it's better and faster than Windows Defragmenter.
It's not with a original microsoft ISO it's with the HP ISO with the pre-installed software that HP puts on the laptop.
I have scanned my computer with Malwarebytes and Kaspersky. Both detect rootkits. No viruses were found.
I also found nothing scanning with Hijackthis.
For my 1TB hard drive, 579GB is free out of 907GB
My insurance company updated all my drivers in February so there are no newer drivers to install.

Something weird is happening.
When I open task manager when licecap is not recording, the disk goes to 99% and 100%, but when I record the task manager window with licecap to create gif screencasts (like the one above), the disk never goes to 99% or 100%. Weird huh? But why?

looks like a rootkit i.e. hidden tasks and possibly rogue service taking 25% of CPU only becuase that's how Windows works on a Quad core. ....12.5% on an 8 core.... 50% on a dual core., i.e. normal

First identify the problem on another OS like Live Linux Mint (iso on DVD), if Hardware OK,, then it appears to be somewhere in your distro of addons to Windoze

I have done a Kaspersky rootkit scan, Hijackthis scan and Malwarebytes rootkit scan and it found nothing.

I have found the solution. It was the automatic defragmenter running in the background by Puran Defag that was causing the disk usage to be very high. I turned off the automatic defragmenter.

However my laptop is slow to start, and Google Chrome is slow to start.
Is there any fix for that?

There can be many reasons for this 100% disk usage problem in your pc. This problem can also be because of the prediction services in google chrome. You can try disabling google chrome prediction service to lower your disk usage.
Just go to settings > Advanced > Privacy and Security category in google chrome and uncheck the option Use a prediction service to load pages.

I have figured out the solution for this.

Intel Rapid Storage technology was causing the bad performance for me.

The problem seems to be the Link Power Management. If enabled, it causes extra delays for many disk operations. I got my normal performance back!

Start Intel Rapid control center, go to performance tab and disable the link power managemet and you are done.

If you use Firefox, go to options and under the general section scroll down to the performance header. Hardware acceleration should be turned on. By default the content process limit is 4. Change it to 7.

Update: Instead turn off hardware acceleration

Open up Resource Monitor and identify the programs in the Disk section that are using most of the disk usage. To open up Resource Monitor, open Start then Run and type in resmon. You can open up Run by using Windows Key + R or by clicking Run on the Start Menu. You can also search for Resource Monitor in the Start Menu. Click the total heading to order by column.

Once you have identified which programs you think are slowing down your computer from the file name in the Image column, navigate to those .exe files. Right click them then go to properties.

You then want to tick the checkbox under the Compatiblity tab to run the program as administrator

Give the Users the group full control permissions for the file under the Security tab.

If the program you are using, uses other exe files to function, you want to repeat them same process for those files too.

Also repeat the process for programs which inject themselves into .explorer.exe such as start menu replacements.7

Using mouse gestures like using two fingers to scroll can also cause your computer to become slow or freeze. If you use a windows laptop, the chances are that you have Synaptics mouse driver installed, so go to C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP and repeat the same process for every exe file in that folder.

Also repeat the same process for the exe files that your security software uses.

You should see changes in your computer's speed and disk usage instantly or soon. If not, then your computer needs to launch your security again from the beginning, so restart your computer and you should notice the changes then.
