Solved Disable line highlight on mouse hover
Hello everyone
I am trying to disable the line highlight when the mouse cursor hovers a file or a folder in Explorer (Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit).
I am not interested in a partial line highlight, I want to get completely rid of that light blue highlight that follows the mouse cursor.
Can anybody suggest a workaround?
Should it be impossible to disable, is there at least a way to change the highlight color from light blue to transparent?
Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me, Jerry
Yes, these are the highlights that I am talking about and that I want to eliminate.
Sorry that I ask this stupid question, but is there any other way (a bit simpler than that and one that does not involve running tools that patch the system) to disable them?
Thanks

In that case, will you be so kind to make a custom theme for me?
Will that theme make them disappear or will that replace the light blue color with a transparent mask?
Thanks

Jerry, I have no words to express my gratitude
Jerry, one more question (I have the feeling you know the answer): I have a specific folder (only one) that should have a particular color as a background (namely FFFF80), is that something that you could eventually add to the theme or can I do that myself in any other way?
I used to do that with the rather simple procedure (desktop.ini) in XP... But I understand that Win 8.1 does not support it
Thanks once more

I only know how to change all folder backgrounds to the same color sorry.
Here you go downlosd the zip folder at the bottom of this post and extract it to your desktop and put both the No_Highlight theme folder and the No_Highlight.theme file in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
It will show up as No_Highlight in Personalization under Installed Themes.
Let me know if it's OK

Hey Jerry,
I hope you don't mind another quick question (so nice to learn from pros like yourself).
There is a native theme in Win 8.1 (called "High Contrast White") the highlights that that theme uses are
perfect for my needs (it makes a sort of a thin rectangular outline of the area below the mouse cursor)... Pity that the rest of that theme is
horrific (otherwise I would use it as my theme).
I was wondering if I could (by myself, without bothering you any further) port only the section of the highlight to another Windows default theme (so without having to use a custom theme).
Would that be very complex?
Thanks

There is not a way to port a High Contrast theme in to a aero theme sorry.
Is this the thin black rectangular?

Yes, that's exactly the one.
I wish I could have the default Windows theme but with that style of highlight (just the thin black rectangular outline whenever the mouse cursor hovers files/folders).
