Hi, I've switched my Toshiba laptop on this morning and it is now saying on the screen "configuring Windows features 100% complete don't turn off your computer", it has now been saying this for over an hour and I don't know what to do. I'm desperate to get it fixed as its only 1 of 2 things I use to contact the "outside world", I'm disabled and housebound so need help to fix this problem, many thanks, Kerrie

Hi Kerrie

What happens if you force shutdown via the powerkey? There is no alternative, unfortunately - Windows is in limbo!

Let us know what happens - sometimes it goes into "checking disk" etc which is normal after a "dirty" shutdown.

Hello Kerry,

Getting into a safe mode is indeed not an easy with windows 8. If you are unable to actually boot to windows itself then there is a "fail safe redundancy" which is to have the computer fail to boot 3 times, thus it will present you with a screen asking to "Choose an option".

To get the computer failing to boot 3 times, hold down the power button after the manufacturer logo disappears from the screen and repeat 3 times
It will ask to choose and option> , select troubleshoot>advanced options>startup settings>restart
It will give you the standard F8 menu from windows 7 (or very similar at least)
You can refresh, reset, or restore your PC from the Windows Recovery Environment.

I would power it off . . . wait 10 seconds . . . power it on . . . see what it does . . . let it sit for a few hours . . . if really bad, do this before you go to sleep, and let it work over night, it should come back
