Using 8. with the old style desktop screen. All the icons were working and now none will load. Appears the links between the shortcut and the destination aren't there anymore. If I use Internet Explorer and go too Google I can access the web sites. Tried making new desktop shortcuts but no go. Really could use some help, I'm dying here. There seems to be a simple solution but it beats me.

Are you getting any error messages when you try to open the shortcuts?
For now, you might see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed .lnk (LNK) and .exe options in the tutorial below may help. They will restore their default associations and registry entries.

If this only happens to website (URL) shortcuts, then double check to make sure that Internet Explorer is set as the default program for all of it's associations to see if it may help.
