All this speculation yet the answer was so simple. Glad your problem is fixed mfx.

I wonder if the Nvidia "NvNetworkService.exe" may be the culprit in this. Also your OCZ-AGILITY3 is showing up as having a S.M.A.R.T. error for Life Left. Those are my only two main concerns. As for the text file. I do not know either what happened.

Hee hee well almost...but im not going any further Its working how I want it, the px could see everything to start with then lost it all. But the slave (media player) can see what I want it to see. So let's not go there

The drive I noticed also. Seems ok but is due for a repatriation to OCZ I think. The second drive has the serious work on it.

Actually the nvidia stuff, it has crossed my mind to disable it on bootup. As with a lot of other unnescessary programs running. Windows updates always catch the latest drivers and tbh, no issue with graphics so never any real rush or demand.

Try disabling it by using msconfig from the run command in the desktop. If it stops the behavior by selecting the suspect item. Then you know what is creating this headache.

Also beware with Windows Updates. The Microsoft signed drivers are wrecking havoc with machines right now. It is suggested to stick with chipset or computer manufacturer drivers.

That is not true. According to your own words you do it every time you boot your computer.

The highlighted part in quote below is how you run the wizard in question, which regardless of your current settings always shows the first option "This computer is part of a business network..." pre-selected:

When I boot up it appears I have to always tweak the settings :

1)[hl] Control Panel > System > Change settings > Network ID[/hl] and select under "Select the option that best describes your network" so I opt for I tick "this is a home computer; it's not part of a business network."

What you call "tweaking the settings" is nothing else than running an unnecessary wizard. To put is short: the Network ID button launches the wizard. You do not need it, however you told us in your original post that you have run it each time you have started your computer.

I also mentioned this tutorial in my previous post although OP's screenshots in this post already showed that the network location was set correctly to Private network.

I think my intepretation of wizard was wrong. IN the sense I thought you meant a popup gui was prompting me to make a decision so understand the confusion.

I understand your rationale after following the guide that chev and yourself posted.

I'm living with the end result as is. The media player is seeing the shared files and the pc is allowing access, quite simply the other way round (pc seeing and accessing media player) is not working. That may be down to an issue on the media player or something else, but I have it doing what I need for now

Im not a genius by any means and appreciate your guys help and patience, always when coming on these forums (windows7/windows8) I get a result through other peoples help, patience and determination. That is something I value.

Set to private yes but it was changing back on it's own without the Group Policy adjustment.

Guess who it was that pointed out to Shawn how to set this up via the Group Policy Option #4 in the same tutorial....yep it was me.

So not only did I post a direct link to a more simplified guide showing the Group Policy adjustment but I'm also the guy who pointed this exact setting out to Shawn... And now here once again I point it out the precise setting to use to fix the problem, not options 1-4 which leaves the OP guessing at which one to use.

Maybe a bit of gratitude for this solve is in order.

I found the solution for you as I had same issue
change the domain workgroup name to something else on each machine this clears all the errors.
then restart each machine
goto network homegroup
Control Panel\Network and Internet\HomeGroup
click leave homegroup on both machines
Restart both machines
Control Panel\Network and Internet\HomeGroup
create new homegroup and join homegroup on all other machines
that it but make sure the network setting are also like the snapshot shown in
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
see snapshots
hope this helps
owh , you might need to re add in your share names

also temp disable any Anti virus programsthat have a security feature firewall built in as an update from them might have caused the issue . if so then just uninstall AV / Security and reinstall it
