Solved Customize Folders with Unique Icons Affect Performance?

This is my first time posting on the sevenforums/eightforums.

I did some searching around here on this fantastic site and didn't quite find what I was looking for, so hopefully somebody might be able to give me some insight into this question.

I've always been one who can't stand the ordinary interface of the computer and must customize things to look unique and different - maybe it's the graphic artist in me...

Anyhow, I just wanted to get a definitive answer since nobody I've asked has really known:
If I were to customize folders with custom icons using the Folder > Properties > Customize > Folder Icons > Change Icon, or I do also use a program called Folder Marker that is wonderful for simply coloring folders to make them stand out --- and if I would change say hundreds or even a thousand, hehe... would customizing these folders ever affect the performance of my computer?

I have just wondered if I am putting stress on the computer by doing this, or is simply swapping one folder icon for another, irrelevant?

Out of curiosity, what would be taxed if anything? The CPU? The memory? I've just wondered if I should stop my customizing obsession!

I have always found so many useful tips and tricks on the forums over the years, I figured it was about time I ask a question - nobody seems to be able to answer this for me. :)

Thank you for any assistance with this query, much appreciated.

I don't think it will affect performance so much but it may create a mess to look at as some system folders may not let you change the icon unless you grant specific principle permissions. Also, if you reset the folders to defaults, you may get a blank icon look.

thanks edwin!

i don't alter system folders really, i'm more into just customizing the many folders i create in non-system-related places, so maybe a few folders on my main drive (SSD) but quite a few on my separate data drives.

so it shouldn't slow down things too much? excellent. i haven't noticed anything, but i've had friends say 'you shouldn't be customizing THAT many folders!'

what can i say... i love to have unique looking folders.

thanks for the reply, much appreciated. i would be curious if anyone else has any insight too.

No probs! :)
Here's an example when I changed folder looks system wide, but it's a lot of work to get it all right.
Then if you change back to defaults it buggers up a lot of stuff.

Hello Menace97, as an OS stylist I have been pursuing UI customizations since the early XP days, based on that experience I would like to mention:
Manually changing each folder icon without any third party software might take a little longer but it is well worth the wait considering in your library there arent so many folder icons to be changed this might be the best bet for you if you dont wanna stress your hardware, but the again some third party software such as icon packager provides the diversity and simplicity to change whatever icons you desire with just a few clicks away with little to no effort to your resources.

Here is a fav icon set by vamphotica as a reference.

So, what would be a good program for making icons and/or converting from pictures ?
