CPU Runs at 100% At all Times

Hey EightForums community.

I don't know why, for some reason, my CPU is always at 100%. I double-check under the Performance tab and it confirms it.

As soon as I close the offending programs that are eating up the usage, other processes just take its place.

Here are a few examples:

I did a malware scan via MalwareBytes and used Windows Defender, restarted the system and still can't figure out what's wrong.

The OS is on an SSD that was installed on it a few months ago, so relatively new system.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

David

To me it looks like you have several instances of windows search running, along with Perfect Disk defragmenting, along with a malware scan and Zune sharing.

That's a lot of simultaneous disk usage. Wait until windows search completes its indexing and PD finished defragmenting and the malware finished running, etc.

Then see how things looks.

Can also set some of the offending services to manual instead of automatic before stopping them.

It is best, in my opinion, to keep third party services to a minimum and set them to manual if possible.

So you bring up task manager....then you see your CPU chart and it shows some running programs going to 100%....? You may have unknown programs running in the background....unknown and probably unwanted...possibly. In XP, I could go to "SAFE MODE" and run a softwear like SuperAntiSpy, or an 'autorun' checker. There are lots of good 'freeware' programs to download and run......WINDOWS 8.1 has me over the barrel.....They rearranged the furnature.......and there is a way to 'SAFE MODE' ....but Windows hasn't made it easy to find it...in 8.1

POP EYE.......'Safe boot' in System Configuration' is unknown to me. 8.1 .............I could help you if in XP.....I also am looking into 8.1....I find almost everything I have found.......the same as XP...but the furnature has been re-arranged....meaning there is really no difference...or little difference...from WINDOWS 8....or 8.1.....to what WINDOWS XP was.....other than REARRANGING the furnature....along with a few minor kicks and bangs....for effect!

Your Dog......avatar....

I have a photo from 1986....that resembles very closely to my 'Jacques' born in southern Maryland in 1983, a German Shorthair and English Setter..mix.........He's long gone, lived 12 and a half years....and was loved by a community....he made front page climbing a ladder onto a boat in the "New London Day" Connecticut news paper, 1986.

Thanks, he is my buddy. A Heeler/Brittany mix I believe. Starting to worry about him, he is 11+ years now. Will be devastated when he goes, but have to just love them while they're here and give them a good life.
