Counstrike 1.6 & Windows8 problem, hl2.exe stops working

So basicly, every time I connect to a server and get started on the map, within one minute the screen goes black and it says "hl2.exe has stopped working". It then has two options; "Check online for a solution and close the program" and "Close the program". Well the problem is, both of them just close the program. Anyone had this before or know how to get it working? This happens every time I play CS, and occasionaly on other games aswell.

EDIT: this happens only on games I have got from steam.

After a bit of searching it seems this is a fairly common problem. The best solution requires some basic troubleshooting which is outlined in the link below.

If your copy of CS 1.6 is on steam then try this:
1. Right Click The Game And Go To Properties
2. Click On Set Launch Options
3. Copy and Past '-nosound -window -dxlevel 70 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0'
4. (Optional) Run the game on an earlier version of windows
