Could I run GTA V? HP ENVY 15

Hey all :)

So, I didn't want to resort to this and potentially waste peoples time but I really can't reach a conclusion. I'm running a HP Envy 15, (full specs below) and I can't decide whether with NVIDIA Experience optimising GTA whether I could play GTA at a decent (>25fps) framerate on medium settings or not. I've tried 'Can I run it' but whilst it says I can run minimum I'm struggling to interpret whether that means I could run it decently or not!

System specs as follows:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 4 cores, 8 logical processors
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 840M, 2GB
Memory: 12GB DDR3

Can anyone give me any advice? Any other specs that I should post to make it easier to decide?

Thanks a ton,

Yes, and very fast. The RAM you have really helps in performance. It should be about 45 FPS at an average. NVIDIA Experience shouldn't give you lag unless it does on games that are less computer demanding. High settings should work fine at 30 FPS or so (with your specs).
It will be a lot easier to decide if you gave your OS bit size (32-Bit, 64-Bit, etc.)

If you have a 32-Bit OS, GTA V should give you 30-40 FPS on high settings.

If you have a 64-Bit OS, GTA V should give you 40-60 FPS on high settings.

Hope this helps! :)

I'm running a 64-bit version of Win 8.1 :) So you don't think the 840m is too poor a graphics card? I carried on researching for the last hour then had the bright idea to compare my graphics card to the recommended min and it only just seemed to reach requirements! If you don't think it'll be a problem I can try it and at least anyone else following on from me will know!

You used "CanYouRunIt.com" which is a pretty bad site to compare cards and requirements with. Can You Run It isn't very reliable, to say the least, as it puts up the specs based off of what the developers-System Requirements Lab-have thought of as an enjoyable game experience. NVIDIA has a "Is your computer ready for this game?" kind of option, and I suggest using that. However, I am hoping that somebody else can join this forum post to give a little extra info, since I haven't done any research on NVIDIA's graphics comparison with other cards, on certain games. Look into it maybe?

I hope this helps too! :)

For the record, as an update for anyone else looking to play GTA V on a similar laptop, go for it.

The game runs absolutely fine. I get an average of about 25FPS on medium settings all round. I play at 1600x900 for slightly higher FPS but the game runs well. Occasionally I have suffered from massive FPS drops online where it'll drop to about 5FPS but this usually only lasts about 10 seconds or less and only happens around once or twice an hour for random as yet unknown reasons. You're not going to get the full HD experience by any means. But the game is 100% playable and definitely 100% enjoyable. I've noticed the load times are excessive, occasionally taking up to about 2 minutes to first load into the game and slightly longer than average load times when completing jobs but nothing that it isn't dealable with.

Question about this game, interested in trying it, system specs definitely run it. Do you need the client from Rockstar social club to run this game ? Hate to add more clients, already have Origin and steam.
