configured identity problem

Following an automatic update and shutdown about a week ago, my desktop won't load my profile; I get the Windows 8 welcome screen, it shows my icon picture and gets my username right (there is no password), but then provides me with a taskbar, no wallpaper or screen saver and no access to any software except as an administrator - even then only a limited number of programs are accessible. When I try to access 'My Computer' or 'control panel' to investigate, I get the following message:
'The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check username and password'.

The welcome screen is showing the correct username, there is no set password..........please can anyone help me sort this out?

Thanks
