CPU INTEL CORE I--3770K LGA1155
Motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V

hi guys,

i feel my pc is not fast enough, so i opened Task Manager, Performance and as usual when doing almost nothing CPU runs between 1.5 ghz and 3 ghz.

When needed he goes up to 4.06 ghz.

i do not like this at all, and want CPU to perform at leat at 3.5 ghz as he is supposed to do.

above you see both motherboard and CPU.

any ideas to fix this.

thanks

jeff

The CPU speed increases as it sees a need for it. That means that the slower speed it clocks down to can never be felt by you.

Best advice is to enjoy the wonderful processor and motherboard as they are. Otherwise, you would be completely 100% without any technical reason or satisfaction, wasting power and paying more for it, with nothing in return.

According to this: ARK | Intel® Core? i7-3770K Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)

you're already getting more benefit out of the CPU than it was designed for. It says: "Up to 3.90 Ghz"

All that being said, and I feel wrong even telling this lol: If you still wish to do as you want, disable SpeedStep in the bios. (Not only will this cost more without benefit, it will keep the voltage to the cpu at its max 100% of the time, unnecessarily.)

CPU-Z is a great little tool to monitor what your CPU is doing. Easy to watch it speed up during something intense like a game. There is also GPU-Z for monitoring your GPU.

Oh yeah, Excel would work well and quickly even on a CPU like a P4 3.0 GHz, which would roughly be something like ~1/25th (give or take) of your CPU processing power. (Even more drastic because of instruction sets.)

The issue you have then is either with the documents themselves or your install of Office.

Try some other sample Excel documents as a test, if you can perhaps find one or two from Microsoft.

Thanks Masterchief,
i was fooling around with a few macro's and swithed from Excel97-03 to Excel (2013), had trouble to save the Macro's, did not know one had to like Excel Macro enabled......which was never necessary in OFfice 97-03.

It took like 3-4 secs to open a simple docu and running the macro's was also slow and a pain.

Finally i search for a fast Excel 97-03 docu, from last year with the same layout, removed the older macro's and copied them back in from the newer and slower doc.

Now it acts normal, still i find this very strange.

thanks

jeff
