information   Information
A CLSID is a globally unique identifier that identifies a COM class object. For more information about a CLSID key and the function of it's subkeys in the registry, then see CLSID Key (COM).

This is a list of GUIDs from the CLSID key in the registry that can be used to create shortcuts to open items with in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

If you know of a GUID that is not in the list, then please feel free to share and post it as a reply below. :)

Note   Note
You could use either command below to create a shortcut with the CLSID key (GUID) for what it opens. If the shortcut doesn't work with one command, then use the other one.

You would right click or press and hold on the desktop, click/tap on New and Shortcut, use a command below for the "location", then type in a name for the shortcut. If you like, you can Pin to Taskbar on desktop, Pin to Start screen, add to Quick Launch, assign a keyboard shortcut to it, or move this shortcut to where you like for easy use.

So basically it's similar to Windows 7 "God Mode".
When I tried using Windows 7's method of god mode (but with the Start Screen Apps GUID) such as:

Start Screen Apps.{4234d49b-0245-4df3-b780-3893943456e1}

it Works! Prevents your finger to be more tired by typing random characters.

Hello MrShowdown,

Thank you, but that's listed as Applications already. If you like, you could use this below to create a shortcut instead that you will be able to pin and use where you like just like any other shortcut. :)

explorer.exe shell:::{4234d49b-0245-4df3-b780-3893943456e1}

What I meant is you can use the Name.{GUID} format instead of the explorer.exe shell:::{GUID}.
You can set the name directly.

Oh, I know what you meant with that by renaming a new folder with that.

I was just pointing out that you don't have "Pin to taskbar" option with the folder vs creating a shortcut. The shortcut gives you more flexibility to use where you like, and icon customization. That's all. :)

Why, thank you Brink!

Hi Shawn,

would appreciate if you can dig out a CLSID for "Advanced Security" command.

I am trying to create a context menu, right click on a file or folder so it would display the Advanced Security Settings for that file/folder

as if I am doing it a long way by
- right click on File/Folder->Properties->Security->Advanced
- or: Click on File/Folder then click Share on the menu of Windows Explorer, then click Advanced Security.

Hello topgundcp,

That would be a nice option to have. I'll look into it and post back if I can find an option for that. :)

Are there CLSIDs to open the "Map Network Drive" and "Disconnect Network Drive" windows, or must these be opened a separate way? If there is a separate way, is anyone aware of how?

These windows are generally accessed via a right-click of "Computer" (can access in Windows 8 by opening the "Desktop" in an Explorer window, then right-clicking the "Computer" icon)

Thanks,
beems

Hello beems, and welcome to Eight Forums.

There's this shortcut below for "Map Network Drive".

Map Network Drive Shortcut - Create - Windows 7 Forums

I'll keep looking for the other one, and post back when/if I find it for you. :)

Thanks! That helps greatly! I simply assumed it would be a CLSID. Glad I posted here anyway - smart group of people here.

I can't find CLSIDs for the Pictures, Videos, etc libraries, but I did validate that the following work, even in other languages (tested in Russian)

 • explorer shell:PicturesLibrary
 • explorer shell:MusicLibrary
 • explorer shell:VideosLibrary
 • explorer shell:Favorites
 • explorer shell:Downloads

Beems,

It looks like there's only a GUID/CLSID for "libraries", but not for the individual ones that can be used for a shortcut. :(

Luckily, you can use the shell commands for them instead.

I see one of the GUID's is a "Command Folder" {437ff9c0-a07f-4fa0-af80-84b6c6440a16}
I looked at that folder, but I don't see how it's supposed to be used. Is there any documentation on it?

I ran across that one by accident, but like you, I have no idea what it's for yet.

"Delegate folder that appears in Computer" looks mysterious. I find that CLSID opens an empty folder that I can't even put anything into. Anybody know what it's for?

Hello Brink. First of all, thank you for this very thorough and well documented list.

Now, I have a question:

Apart from the two search CLSIDs (that use the new modern interface)

Search Apps
{2559a1f8-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

Search Files
{2559a1f0-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

were you able to find the CLSID for "Search Settings" (equivalent for WIN + W keyboard shortcut)? I couldn't locate it in this list.

I tried to search for it manually in the registry, but had no luck. Also tried with RegShot Unicode (x64), but didn't get any useful info either.

It would be very helpful for me if I could find this CLSID as I want to integrate it as a button in a custom toolbar for Total Commander (I use it for 12+ years and it's miles ahead Windows File Explorer). Not that I'm so lazy and I couldn't press Win+W, but would be nice as a custom button too :)

Thanks!
