Hi Barbee,

Below is a picture which shows how to unzip a file. Don't worry about Trend Micro or the BIOS for now.

ZIp.jpg
Step 1) Open Windows Explorer, locate to the file.
Step 2) Right click the file and choose Extract All.
Step 3) It should open a new window with the extracted files. Double click Setup.exe, follow the on screen prompts.
Step 4) Restart the computer.

Sorry Master, I'm sure your advice is good, but a bit beyond my computer capabilities. Thank you very much for trying to help.

I am just awaiting where to install these files. Staying off the Internet until I know if I can turn on TM yet.

win8 has excellent antivirus/malware tool installed [Windows Defender ]and running I have been using only that since win8 came out ,and Microsoft security essentials before that .
,not need to be afraid ,and your only 9 years older than me ,and I just point and click on everything ,nothing to worry about just because of you age .lol

I wasn't meaning that 70 was old. I'm very fit and youthful for 70. But we didn't grow up with computers like the younger generation. My 3 yr old is already a whiz on the computer and my autistic grandson in Georgia is writing his own programs. Thanks anyway Jack. All you can do is the best you can. I'm very mindful of doing something that will screw the whole computer up. Micro Trend came with the computer, was priced right so I kept it.

I don't get a "extract all" option. I never had a problem with WinZip before. It would always open things nicely now it gives me a lot of choices. I tried to download other free ones but they all come with garbage. I got garbage with WinZip too but got rid of it.

If I just double click on the file I get this:

Image1.jpg Never saw it before and have no clue what to do with it.

I don't want to talk about ridding anitivirus - I said what I said about it already and that's that. (Whether it is followed or not is completely not my choice, obviously.)

I hope you uninstalled Arcsoft software as I've shown. It is literally the most important thing you can do for the machine besides what I do not want to talk about (lol).

Mate slow down! NO NEED TO BUY ANYTHING!

Microsoft has built in a zip extractor. RIGHT-click such a zip file, select extract to, and tell it where. Your desktop is a great location, because you can find it. That is where the real file will go. You open the file, and run the bit, usually an .exe file. But don't let that scare you! Usually it is called setup or such. I'll post more, but give me time. We can walk you through this

Barbee,

I'll walk you through this thing step-by-step, if you will trust me.

It is possible this is a driver issue, but not certain. This may be the cause as stated by Microsoft:
Cause

The specified processor is not processing interrupts. Typically, this occurs when the processor is nonresponsive or is deadlocked.
So this could very well require a BSOD expert to check your machine. I can show you how to get there.
What I plan to do is have you update drivers and windows, and then post a BSOD report. No need to worry, I'll take you through this.

First, I need to find out what kind of computer you have. I will give you a link to click, and a popup on the bottom of your screen will ask you to run a tool. Go ahead and do it. The screen may flash before the popup box appears. This is normal! The reason is that it acts as if it is linking to another page, but doesn't need to because it is only a file. This is the link you need here: http://www.sevenforums.com/attachme...tem-info-see-your-system-specs-systeminfo.exe
- You will get a screen that looks like mine below. Look at the section below that says motherboard, and post back everything that is in that space. Here is an example:

Untitled.png

So I'll wait to get back the motherboard type from you :) Alternatively, If you know your computer name, that will work too lol. I have a laptop called a Dell M5040 that I dislike very much. If you know your computer's name, let me know!
After you close the program, you will never have to worry about seeing it again, because it will be gone. All it does is provide an easy way to scan your system information, so we can use it to give you better advice!

I do have zip extractor but I couldn't figure out how to use it.Image1.jpg I used to unzip files daily on my XP with winzip with no problems at all. Now these files open into CAP files.... very hard to open and when I Googled CAP files I saw that they are dangerous to mess with. That you can screw up your registry and possible your warranty.

Wouldn't I be better since I've only had the computer since Sept. to take it back to Best buy and let Geek squad fix it? I hate to part with it and have a lot of personal info on the computer.... but I'm just not good enough at computers to do this

Been there and done that. Review the thread to see. (No crash dumps are included - but the advice is still perfect necessary for the situation.)

I contacted the ghost of Einstein and he has said to relay to the thread: "Please do not over-complicate things and just please uninstall Arcsoft software and Trend Micro."

I wish I could, truly I do because I'm going to lose everything. I can put most on my zip drive, but what about the programs I pay for like Microsoft Office?

Also... I have no clue how to save emails. I have so many important ones with codes and Serial numbers, addresses and etc.

I can use my lap top, but for some reason I can't connect mail with it and I have to get it right from Time Warner. It's a big pain.

But if I listened to Einstein, it would save me all that work, BUT if I screwed up it could void my warranty. I am not proficient enough to trust I wouldn't screw up.

 Not a happy camper.
