Solved Clean install using 8.1 ISO, with Win8 Key?

Hi there.

So I purchased a windows 8 license key upgrade while running windows 7. I burned this to USB and now am able to use it to do a clean install to windows 8 on my machine when I want.

Only problem is I hate having to install all the updates, then upgrade to 8.1.

Can I get an 8.1 Iso and install this with the windows 8 key I have?

Hello Npinn, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If this is a "retail" copy of Windows 8, then you should be able to use Option One in the tutorial below to download a Windows 8.1 ISO file with your Windows 8 product key.

When you do a clean install of Windows 8.1, you would need to use a generic to install with. After the installation is complete, you would change the product key to use you Windows 8 key to activate with. The tutorial below will give you all the details to help.

Yes you can! finding the 8.11 ISO is another problem hopefully you can find a friend that purchased a DVD Copy!! That you can borrow. You'll have go Goggle for Temp Generic Install Only key to start your Clean install. Then after install Activate with your Win 8 key.

I have one other question if I may?

When I do an install win windows 8, should I install an antivirus product and then do all the windows updates, or should I install the updates and then install an AV?

I just dont want to be vulnerable while they all install?

Using Windows Defender - Windows Help

Windows Defender is included with Windows and helps protect your PC against malware (malicious software). Malware consists of viruses, spyware, and other potentially unwanted software.

You don't need to install any other antivirus or antispyware software.

Agreed. Unless you just wanted to install a 3rd party AV of your preference, the included Windows Defender is pretty decent.
