You will probably need to reboot to update it. There is an option to not reboot but it has never worked properly for me.

The new version can be downloaded from the home page Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

Thank you so much! I honestly would have never been able to get used to Windows 8 if it wasn't for Classic Shell.
and now you will never get use the real win8,happy computing ,win10 is coming and you won't need classic shell
I'm not sure about that.

I know of at least one forum member, who doesn't share your optimistic appraisal of the situation.

I was almost heart broken when the originators of the "Classic Shell" decided to NOT continue with it.

But then another group stepped up to take it over and continue Updating it.
The New And Improved version of the "Classic Shell" is now know as the "Open Shell Setup". It works the same and looks the same as the original, and I won't install Windows 8.1 or even Windows 10, without it.

I just downloaded the latest version from Major Geeks. ( OpenShellSetup_4_4_170.exe )
