Is the windows explorere not crashing anymore, is this fixed?

Yes, version 4.0.6 fixes the crash in Explorer. This is the only difference from 4.0.5.

was using a paid app for Start. I use MS Start Apps and also put a shortcut on desktop. when I switched to Classic Shell , the Start Apps shortcut became unresponsive in all locations. Have to go to individual apps...

Any way to correct this?

"Start Apps" doesn't sound like a Windows feature or a Classic Shell feature. Maybe it was something implemented by the previous software you used, which you uninstalled?

I'm still using 4.0.4 and love it. I'm not even going to try the Windows 8.1 version as I know I wont like it as much, but I'm wondering should I update to 4.0.6 for security reasons?

Oh well........

I stopped Classic Shell from running by mistake and the new Windows version of the menu wasn't there as I had expected. So what all those pictures from 8.1 launch were showing I know not. The Start button just took me straight to Metro!

Implemented Shell as soon as possible and now i can work again..... :D

That is not Win9.

That is what is expected to be in the next Win8.1 Update.
I have not found anything yet that says that is a concept picture, but it was part of the Build Week Day 1 Key Note
Time line 2:10:10

However, in another thread I was told someone had stated that was a concept, not official.
Hopefully that is what we will get, that is what it should be.
But, we will have to wait and see.

Interactive Live Tiles, may be a part of the update as well,, or may come in Win9. Who knows?

Actually, if the option is there, what is wrong with it?
I actually like that Start Menu, I would surely use the Start button more often.

What is the aversion to Tiles and Live Tiles, they are essentially Gadgets.
Everyone was googoo for gadgets not too long ago.
Everyone has Gadgets on their phones, (yes, I mean Apps, which many are just gadgets)

seriously, it makes no sense.
