Is it possible to change the Start Menu icon in classic shell from the Shell to something else?

Sweet, thanks. Now, does anyone know where the start button icon is stored on Win 7? I found this png via a Google search, but I don't know if that is going to work with Classic Shell

Here's the one that I used. You will have to save it as an Icon. I tried to up load the icon. But that's an invalid file type. Sorry.

I'm having problems with the 3.9.0 beta as far as the Disable Active Corners set to All goes. It doesn't appear to be working properly for me. If I intentionally point to a corner nothing happens, but as I use the computer I'm getting what appear to be random overlays of the charm and time start rectangle, but in black with white print. Click on the screen and it disappears. I'm on 8, not 8.1. Is there some setting I'm missing?

Is it possible that you are activating gestures using a touchpad? Classic Shell doesn't deactivate those. They are controlled by the touchpad driver.

Hi there
can you inhibit the w8.1 standard windows Start button or move the classic shell start button along a bit on the taskbar so the two buttons aren't on top of each other.

(Disable active corners isn't needed BTW in W8.1 as this can be done in standard windows configuration (via the Navigation options in the control panel so it should ease the coding a bit for the full W8.1 version).

Cheers

In versions 3.6.8 and 3.9.0 the standard Win 8.1 button is hidden, so there's no overlap.
The upcoming version 3.9.1 will have an option to use the Win 8.1 button as is.
If you are using version 3.6.7 or older, well, don't.

Hi there
Thanks for the quick reply -- did you also note that W8.1 can disable the active corners so you don't really need to add that feature in the W8.1 versions.

The problem with hiding the W8.1 start button is that there are now TWO start screens -- the stupid hated metro screen and the Applications screen. Again in the configuration (W8.1) you can specify which of these screens appears when you want to go to the start screen. Remember also that applications are installed initially to the APPLICATION screen and not the "Metro start screen" and so at times one might want to get into the application start screen. Maybe on the classic shell menu go to start screen (which ever one you've decided in the configuration to display first) should be an item in the main menu list.

I decided to keep my settings because they do a bit more. For example I can disable the lower-left corner, and the edge at the top of the screen as well.

Hi there
I added some comments --you were too quick !!!!! - but have a read of my previous post about the TWO start menus and the start sequence choice in W8.1 (Post nr #293)

I believe you are incorrect. The two screens are - the pinned programs and all programs. This works the same way as in Windows 8, except that Desktop programs are not pinned by default. Nothing is stopping you from pinning though, and you'll get the exact same look as in Windows 8.

There is an option to select which one to see by default.

Yes, I'm using a touchpad. So is there any way around this?

Look in the Control Panel or the Device Manager for settings that you can tweak. The must be a way to disable gestures.

Hello Ivo,
is it possible you add a switch to disable hot corners on desktop only and leave the hot corners activated on Metro startmenu and Metro apps ?

Hi there

Functionally I have no doubt that you are correct and what I was saying is that from the Classic shell orb there should be a link to the START screen and the screen presented should be either the METRO one or the applications one - depending on what you have configured to show as your start screen in Windows.

Maybe even better - BOTH options in the Classic shell metro -- the ACTUAL start screen and the Applications screen so one can choose from the desktop.

There are of course advantages and disadvantages in this though as well however it seems more logical if you are having a menu system in the first place then it makes perfect sense to be able to present the user with ALL the choices available with the minimum number of key strokes.

If Windows has two separate screens that the user can configure at will then IMO it makes sense to present the user with DIRECT NAVIGATION to either of these screens.
