How can I change the name of my DVD drive? I chance the drive letter on it , now it says its a Compact-Flash drive. Right click on it does not bring up rename like it does on HD and removable drive.

No. You can only change the drive letter in Disk Manager. Thanks for the reply.

As mentioned above, I used the tutorial, but that didn't change it. Yes, the name is correct if I don't use a letter that was previously used by another removable drive.

Try using another letter temporarily delete "I" reboot than put "I" back in, change DVD to "I", reboot. Maybe use Ccleaners Reg cleaner(OMG!) in between to kill any keys pointing to the sd/mmc and/or use disk cleanups windows update cleanup to get rid of the old WinSxS(“Side-by-side assemblies are used by the operating system as fundamental units of naming, binding, versioning, deployment, and configuration. The Winsxs folder includes all manifests, optional components and 3rd party Win32 files”.) files.

I did delete the I drive, rebooted and use CCleaner reg cleaner. That didn't fix it either. I didn't do the update cleanup yet because, not too sure about this months updates yet.

Thanks Cliff S, I changed the drive letter to X and the Comp-Flash went a way. I could name it whatever after CD-ROM Drive with the tool.

The registry DefaultLable does not work in Windows 8.1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\M\DefaultLable (Default) Modify DVD RW Drive

Check your spelling i think you should be using "DefaultLabel"
