Solved Certain Metro Apps Not Working

Hi, I have a problem here...
I upgrade my Win7 to Win8 Pro and later to Win8 Pro with WMC (using the free key that Microsoft gave). Later I realized that few of my Metro Apps not working especially News, Sport, and Weather. From what I read, this usually caused by the antivirus. But strangely, when I check the other account, that apps are fine, so I think its not the problem.
I even create a new account, and found that those apps were fine. I've using my current account for a long time so it had been so customized, and the data had growing so many and big (more than 13 GB when I check), so I don't want to abandon, moreover delete it. I have tried to create a new account, use the WET (Windows Easy Transfer) to transfer my setting and app data, only to found that the problem come again (I've confirm that those apps were working before transfer my setting). Any ideas about the cause?? Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks, and sorry for my english ;)

I had a similar problem when installing 8 pro over 7, nothing worked. I contacted Microsoft and they were as usual unhelpful, giving solutions such as checking my timezone, anti-virus etc. In the end I did a full clean install and everything worked luckilt I didn't lose much of anything because all my important app installs/docs/pics etc where on a seperate partition, it's been fine since even though WMC took ages to be activated (not that it would have proven to be a great loss!) and even now Windows still tells me it is not activated but when I follow the link it then tells me the opposite. Anyway thats the only solution I found !

you might try changing your video driver. some versions of Nvidia and ATI drivers are having problems with Metro apps that are streaming or pull live information. play around and find if changing to an older driver or to a newer driver fixes things. for me, I had to switch from the newest driver to the ATI driver that came with Windows 8 in order to fix it.

Well, I was trying to avoid a clean install here, so reinstall my Win8 is not an option for now.

for me, I had to switch from the newest driver to the ATI driver that came with Windows 8 in order to fix it.
If the problem is in my driver, wouldn't it affect to all of the user account?? My problem here seems strange enough, giving the facts that only my user account that encounter this problem, so I think the problem is in my user setting or something like that. Besides, I've confirm that transfer my user setting using WET does transfer the problem too, despite the fact that this new account was fine before. But I'll give it a try. Just want to know, what version of ATI driver that you try and then solve the problem?? I use a Radeon graphic card too, with Catalyst 13.01 installed

Thanks, and sorry for my english ;)

Welcome to EightForums, SiverSurfer.

Try checking the Store -> Right click -> My apps. They could be there. Are they in All Apps? I think there is a certain update that is affecting Modern apps that I've been trying to pinpoint.

Also, remember that apps are not shared amongst accounts. They are specific. They're not like legacy desktop programs where they're shared. Each user needs to install.

Hope that helps. Again, welcome. :)

You could follow this procedure in creating a new user account. Try creating a new user account of the same type you typically login with? Copy everything you will need to the new account if it works (i.e., you should be able to access the old user account via C: > Users > Old User Account to copy what you want into the new user account). Then, delete the old account. You can go back to the original user name similarly. Before you do so, make sure that deleting the original user account also deleted that user's folder in C: > Users. Sometimes this folder does not get deleted. If not, then going back to the original user name creates a minor only superficial "problem." To delete the folder, you may have to take ownership. I would not go back the the original user name using any other procedure.

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

Does it mean that I'd be better to reinstall them?? These apps have receive updates before, so I think that they are well installed...

Yeah, I've think about this before, but still have no time to try it. The problem is, which folder that will I need?? The reason I use WET before was because its simplicity. There were so many folder and files in my user account folder that would give me enough headache for the next few days just to figure out which folder for what. I'm not totally newbie, but I'm not an expert too. I'm certain that AppData folder would be one of what I need, but is that folder alone will be enough??
Would it be fine if I just use my second OS (which is Ubuntu) to copy all of the content of my current user account folder to the new one??

Well, just confirmed that my Finance apps not working too. Its four apps that have this error now

Thanks, and sorry for my english ;)

the driver problem can affect any app that requires Internet data and is most noticeable with streaming applications. for apps that don't grab information from your Internet connection (things like calculators, games, paint programs, etc.), they should work fine.

Your English is fine (enough). You are communicating what you want/need to. Actually, you won't have to copy that much. Just the contents of the old user folder that you still want. Be sure and include your desktop contents including short cuts. Don't try to copy app files; doing so generally will not work. Some apps are installed for all users. Other will need to be reinstalled for any new user. Take a snipping-tool shot (or screen shot) of your installed programs in Control Panel > Programs and Features so you will be able to determine what programs need to be installed. Be sure and back up the contents of your old user folder to allow for making a mistake.

Sorry for the very belated reply...
Finally I've managed to make the apps working again by creating a new account and transfer my account files there, just like you said :D

Thanks for the help!!! ;)
