When I was on Windows 8, I transferred all my music from my old pc to my laptop's WMP without any probs. Upgraded to 8.1 and because of some issues I roll-backed to 8.00. I now have to re-transfer all my music from my old pc to my new one again. I can't transfer music from my old pc to WMP on 8.1, my music has been transferred into This PC/Music and it won't let me dragt\copy\move it from there to WMP, Should I just delete it from This PC/Music and do another transfer please?

You have to start the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service for that to work, the service has to be ON and you control it from "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options"

I dragged my music from This PC/Music to WMP and I got the message WMP encountered a problem while creating or saving the playlist. The reason is that there could be a wrong codec on the pc. I transferred all my music over in Windows 8 so I thought I would be able to do the same in Windows 8.1. I will try your way. Thanks very much.

Have tried Control Panel/Network and Internet/Click Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options|Click Join Now\Follow Homegroup wizard to enter password. - I didn't get the Homegroup wizard and I could not join.

In hindsight it would have been better when I fist upgraded to 8.1 was to have sorted out all the issues with 8.1 instead of rollingback to Windows 8, because I had all my music in WMP. I don't understand why I can't transfer the music from my laptop's music library into WMP when I have transferred it into VLC without this codecs problem.:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Im on 8, they may have changed it in 8.1 and took out the Media Server. It's not in the Homegroup settings, it's in the Advanced Sharing Settings. Maybe thats why it doesn't work, if they took it out in 8,1. I'll have to check my 8.1 dummy machine, but it is not set up right now.
