Can't send 'link' by email from a website on desktop

#1
With a website opened on the desktop that I want to send the 'link' or 'page' by email, I go to 'Page', (top right), but both the 'Send page by email' & the 'Send link by email' are greyed-out. They won't even work if I select/highlight the page first. Why? How do you normally accomplish the same thing with a site from the 'Start screen'? Thanks for any help.

Your browser has no email client.

I use Opera browser which has its' own email client :

Untitled.png

If you install Opera you don't have to use it.
You can continue using your present browser, but once you configure the Opera email you will have the option to right click & send by email.

I will attach a tutorial I made on setting up Opera & its' email client.
Unzip it & open the HTML file it contains.
It's like a mini webpage.

To fix send link grayed out
Go to TOOLS /INTERNET OPTIONS /PROGRAMS Tab/INTERNET PROGRAMS /SET PROGRAMS /SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND COMPUTER DEFAULTS /CUSTOM /CHOOSE A DEFAULT EMAIL PROGRAM / and select your email program there. Make sure "Enable access to this program" is checked.

Hi Clint, In that last box, already enabled is: 'Use my current email program' & 'Enable access to this program'. The only other box to enable is: 'Opera'. So I enabled that & the problem is solved, I can now send a link or a current page by email. Thanks to medab1 & clint.

Hi medab1. I followed your tutorial & got the attachment on to the Opera email. I sent it off. However, it goes into the 'Outbox' & no further. Four times I tried, I now have 4 emails sitting in the 'Outbox'. I'm getting the 'Mailer Error':
'Sending email failed. Maybe the SMTP server is not set up properly? Email queued'. I also got another 'Mailer Error:
'The connection with the IMAP server was unexpectedly interrupted'. I did select IMAP when setting up the acct. Any suggestions?

I decided to try again to make Opera work. I read somewhere that I should have received an email with an activation link. I didn't. This time I used my Gmail email address & applied again, & I did get an email from Opera with an activation address. The problem is it wasn't hyperlinked & when I copied & pasted it into my browser & entered it, it didn't activate. It's as if somebody doesn't want me to use an Opera email account. Suggestions?

Can you provide a copy of the Opera activation email ?

I like the fact that you don't give up. :)

I managed to activate the Opera email service by going to the Gmail website & finding the activation email there. I WAS able to click on it there, (it was hyperlinked), so I'm now activated. However, it now wants me to verify it via a mobile phone. (I don't think Opera is looking for business with their email service!). I don't use a mobile phone & apparently neither do several other people who have experienced the same problem. Why they can't just accept a landline number I do not know! So here I am wondering what to do now. Besides which, I'm still not getting hyperlinked messages through my regular email service. Below is a copy of the email that I couldn't activate or copy & paste. I notice that when I copied & pasted the email to this post it is now hyperlinked!

Thanks Clint

With a website opened on the desktop that I want to send the 'link' or 'page' by email, I go to 'Page', (top right), but both the 'Send page by email' & the 'Send link by email' are greyed-out. They won't even work if I select/highlight the page first. Why? How do you normally accomplish the same thing with a site from the 'Start screen'? Thanks for any help.
Thanks Clint, I had this problem about a year ago when I ran windows 8, then I upgraded to windows 8.1 and it started again. I couldn't remember how to get around it, but your clear precise instructions worked well, and all is now working correctly again.
I don't know why the others are bothering with Opera, it isn't necessary and seems rather complicated for what is otherwise a simple fix.
Thanks again I've saved a copy of it in case I forget again.
:D

Well I don't still understand it. Where it says:.........and select your email program there. The only choice you get is: "Use my current email program". I still can't send a link or a page of a website opened on the 'Desktop' by email to anybody. They're both greyed out! I still can't select an item in my documents by right clicking & selecting: "Send to mail recipient. I get the: 'There is no email program associated to perform the requested action'. And I don't want to use Opera either!. I have 2 email addresses, both of which I can use & send attachments, but only from the 'Mail' program.

I think I had the same problem, I had to download windows live mail from Microsoft and use that. When it is installed and selected as your default program, it should appear in the window as an alternative to "use your current email program". For some reason, windows Mail doesn't seem to support the "send link by" tool. I think it is designed to be used mainly by tablets so doesn't have the facility. Mind you, I probably don't know what I'm talking about and am quite prepared to be shot down in flames by other more enlightened forum members!

:D
Thanks Arfajob. Glad it worked for you. I saved it too. robinpe, did you choose custom? I have Live Mail also. That may be the only one that works.
