Does anyone have a clue why Recycle Bin is grayed out in Desktop Icon Settings?

Hello Clayton, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It looks like you disabled the Recycle Bin desktop icon somehow.

See if using step 1 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below may be able to restore and ungray this option for you. It's for Windows 7, but it's the same in Windows 8.

Thanks Shawn! That did the trick...

Built another VM from scratch and the Policies\NonEnum hive does not exist in a fresh install. Have no idea how that happened - certainly not by intention. Thanks for saving what little hair is left.

You might do a full scan of your system with something like Malwarebyte Anti-Malware just to help make sure your system is clean.
