Can't edit mp3 details in properties

My previous OS was Windows 7 64-bit. I used rip my favorite music tracks and was able to edit the details in the Details tab of the Properties window after right-clicking on the file name. The system hardware is the same. OS is now Windows 8 64-bit. But when I open the mp3 file's property window and go to the details tab, I get fewer options in detail and I CANNOT edit any one of them. I have run sfc - no problem. I have opened the Explorer as Administrator and still the same issue. Here's the screen capture:

It might help to know that I am the sole user of the desktop PC. And that I have another PC at another place with same configuration also running Win 8 64-bit. On that PC for the same file I see more details on the screen and I can edit the fields. I might post the capture from that PC later when I go there.

Meanwhile, any ideas for this odd behavior? I also ran the mp3Tag to get over the possible issue with ID3 tags.

Need help to solve this. Thanks.

Some program might be "hogging"it. Shut down all the programs that might be using it and try.

So what can be the causing this difference in behavior? Both systems have been recently installed. Both have the same set of other Programs on them and yet both show different screens! Is there anything that needs to be changed in the registry perhaps?

Can I recommend some other software that would simplify those tasks instead? Mp3Tag works great for me.

Logged in as Admin and yet the same. Attributes - archive. Not hidden not read-only. Given full control in UAC to all folders and sub-folders. Still no change. I copied the same file to the other PC without changing anything and I was able to edit and see all details. So I don't think it has anything to do with file attributes. For the time-being I started using MP3Tag to make my changes and that's really good. BUT I simply wish to know now is why this kind of weird behaviour?

If the issue is with adding attributes to MP3 files, solution is the same, use MP3tag, or import the library into iTunes and use "Get Info" to add tags and artwork.

I have noticed, sometimes, when upgrading to 8 where 7 existed before, or even adding 8 as a dual boot system, any DATA drives that are connected to the 7 system originally, get LOCKED- Not the whole drive, but most of the folders.

I've used Unlocker in the past to defeat this, I had to move the files temporarily to another drive, and re-create the folder on the Data drive, copy the files back.

If the drive is merely a Data drive, you can go through it folder by folder.

You can use Unlocker to move the folders:

Download Unlocker - MajorGeeks

There is a toolbar in the installer as an "opt in" - Use "Advanced Install" and do not let that install. Delta Toolbar, don't let it go in.

I've tried and tried messing around with the permissions, all to noah vail. after beating my head on it for 3 days, finally used Unlocker, and it successfully moved the folder that was stuck. Then I copied it back, after deleting it from the drive, and it was no longer locked and was able to open in both 7 and 8.

Thank you very much for your advice but I also faced strange Force Closing for all apps (Music, Video, Skype..)and problems with Graphics card drivers so I decided to re-format and re-install Windows 8 (clean installation).

Now everything seems OK - I can see details for all files (audio, video, pictures...)

My experience with 8.1 has been bad...maybe is better to wait some updates/fixes

Can you explain this "Forced-Closing"? - Is this happening on it's own, or is it making you do it?

Are you opening these files in a desktop program, or from a Tile App?

I have not been able to solve the problem. And I don't know if it IS Windows 8. Because on one PC Win8 it behaves fine but on another PC with the same Win8, it is as I described. So I think it is weird. Using MP3Tag for now.

Had the same problem after becoming a microsoft user. Just tried going into flight mode (i.e. switch of wi-fi) and no problem updating properties.

Solution : Go into flight mode

If you hover over the MP3 file you will notice that it says "available off-line". It might have been a clue.

I've noticed this with VLC sometimes, it tries to load a bunch of Metadata into my personal music files. I get around this by Setting the Metadata myself in Sound Forge when I am creating the MP3 file. You can also do it while it is still a WAV file. The other thing I do is use iTunes "Get Info" for the items then set the correct data in there.

Looks like I'm having a similar problem in 8.1 64 bit. I cannot change any tagging on the new machine. I can in XP. did you find a solution to this. I have 14 years of music tagged in MP3 collector and Mediamonkey. They all work on the new machine... but the tagging for everything new is over.

I looked at the post above By dog and I noticed that all my music says "Available offline" when I hover over it.

This is a first build for me. My last computer was a Dell Dimension 8200 from 2000. I have had no problems with this new build. Started up from day one. I'm sort of proud of myself for this.

I am Looking for a nice 28+ inch 4k Monitor. Any suggestions?
