Solved Can't Change Update Settings "Some settings are managed.."

IT did not work on windows 7, any idea ?

Ok. You can download and merge the .reg file I attached below, and approve all prompts to remove all Windows Update group policies. Sign out and in of Windows afterwards to fully apply, then see if you are able to set your Windows Update settings. :)

It depends on what your issue is. Please provide more details. :)

Same i still see the 2017-07-20 20_49_42-Internet Options.pngabove error in IE 11, and it wont let me add trusted sites which is the ultimate objective. :(

Hello Brink , Yes , that's what i was reffering to. I looked up for a solution all over the internet to this matter and i can't find nothing that works for me.

Just to verify, did you restart the computer after merging the .reg file?

If this has just recently started, then you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to undo it.

Hi Brink! It's been 4 years since this thread was first posted and your reg file still helps... well, in my case, partially.

I followed your instructions to merge the reg file, restarted my laptop, and now I can pick the setting I want from the drop-down menu. I went to click OK, and... it still says I need an admin's permission. I'm on the Administrator account, of course. I wonder what's wrong?

I have made a restore point prior to merging the reg file. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

UPDATE: I shut down my laptop after a program crashed. I've recently turned it on again and when I open Windows Update it's back as if I never merged your reg file. Before the shutdown, the drop down menu was blank and the yellow box is gone. I'm trying to change the setting to Install updates automatically.

1. My UAC setting is set to never notify.

2. Why I try to change the setting is due to my inability to install (a few months ago) Adobe Illustrator, and currently .NET Framework 3.5 for a program that needs it (it keeps returning error 0x800F0906). I'm trying to follow fixes I haven't seen and I got the steps to insert these into CMD:

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
pause

But what I got was this:

It says that my Windows Update service is not started? So I try to change the settings, but I can't.

I have done that. I've stated it in my first post in this thread. It gives me a blank drop down menu with the yellow box gone, but when I press OK to apply it it still gives me the "You need an administrator's permission" prompt.

Great news so far.

Double check in option 1 below to make sure the Windows Update service is enabled, set to "Automatic", and start so it's running.
