Solved Can't Change Update Settings "Some settings are managed.."

Hello Strax, and welcome to Eight Forums. :)

Yes, you could do the same thing since it appears you have a Windows Update policy enabled.

You would just need to download the .reg file, double click on the .reg file to merge it, approve the prompt to approve the merge, and restart the computer to apply.

After googling a while, I found this thread.
Of course I had to register with EightForums to download the registry patch.
& you know what? I'm glad I did. The patch worked flawlessly and I think I might just browse the rest of this website for some more useful information.

Ok. You can download and merge the .reg file I attached below, and approve all prompts to remove all Windows Update group policies. Sign out and in of Windows afterwards to fully apply, then see if you are able to set your Windows Update settings. :)

The reg file worked in win 10 to un-grey the buttons allowing me to change everything, so that's a partial fix, but it still didn't get rid of the remark atop the advanced section that states, " Some settings are managed by your organization " after I rebooted. What do I do?

Thanks, this worked for me. I had a user with Windows 8.1 that wasn't Pro or Enterprise and couldn't get in to group policy or local policy to make any changes as a result. I think this problem originated with some malware, but this at least got it so the updates are accessible now. WU is broken still, but at least now it isn't a permissions thing and I can troubleshoot the individual components from here.
