Solved Can't Change Update Settings "Some settings are managed.."

Hey thanks a bunch it works on windows 7 too. Same problem as the one stated above!
But actually i am more interested what has caused this to happen?
Do you know why? Whats the group policy thing? My computer is mostly just used by myself.

Actually you can ignore the top question, more importantly, after applying the reg file, i get this whenever i press the windows update button manually. Any way to fix this? I still want to see what updates are available every now and then.

Thanks for the reply, after turning on the computer this morning,
I found out that it was working just fine. Maybe the restart fixed it.

Ok. You can download and merge the .reg file I attached below, and approve all prompts to remove all Windows Update group policies. Sign out and in of Windows afterwards to fully apply, then see if you are able to set your Windows Update settings. :)

thanks , works like a charme for me!

I wanted all to know that 6 years later and this answer is still relevant. I just downloaded his REG file and it resolved my issue!

Hello SART, and welcome to Eight Forums. :)

The tutorial below may be able to help you enable Registry Editor again. You will need to be signed in as an administrator though.

Brink, on page one, you posted a .reg file to merge and fix this issue.

I can't thank you enough. I have been beating my head against the wall for two weeks. Searching for different key word combo's. Today I tried a different approach and BINGO.

Problem solved, now I can check for updates and get some restore points going.

Again, Huge Thank you.
